Awesome job, Hal. Glad to hear things went really well. And nice job keeping a 9:30 pace. That's way faster than my target.

pedro wrote:I have to do some shifting around this week. I ran 10 hard miles today. Once again, I wasn't really planning on it when I started. I was planning on 9 easy miles but it just kind of took off. I'm not sure if that is good or not. Fall is definitely here as the crisp air felt great.

Chocolate milk or a soy protein drink of some kind. You want some protein.
I have run three marathons and I have never been able to get any food down immediately after a race. I tried a bagel after my first two, but literally could not swallow anything solid.

Which one? Like you, I've avoided beer during my final two weeks of training -- including at an Oktoberfest party (lots of lime seltzer for me). I have a 4-pack of Guinness Red Harvest in the fridge, but I'm not convinced it will be great, so I'm thinking about a Firestone Walker's Porter.x10000000000000000000000Hal wrote:I hate bananas.

Woo hoo! As of today, I'm here too! Did a quick 2 miles today and felt good. All that's left now is to rest, continue to carb load, and try to relax! Oh, and those 26.2 on Sunday.

There's a fresh pack of OREO's in my kitchen cabinet. I will likely eat the entire pack on Saturday evening. And wash it down with a fantastic chocolate/coffee stout.
pedro wrote:Excellent work, Hal. I'm looking forward to hearing about your race. If you feel a little stir crazy the day before the race, don't hesitate to put the running shoes on and do a very slow two miles. It can really help your state of mind.Hal wrote:What kind of energy bar would you suggest for post-race? I hate bananas.

I ran 10 miles of Yasso's 800s today. I ran them on my treadmill. It starts with a 2 mile warmup and then a half mile at 7:19 per mile. Repeat that 7 additional times. That left me with 2.25 miles of recovery/cool down at the end.
Pain in the ass, but they are a great workout.xxxHunterxxx wrote:I just ran 4 miles. I will likely run 4 more miles tomorrow. I'll keep you posted. Now, I'm going to eat several cookies and wash them down with a glass of milk.

You're already up to 4 miles. Another 2.1 will be a piece of cake. Go for it!

Hunter, If you can do 4 miles semi-comfortably, I imagine the adrenaline of a race will get you over the top for a 10K. Are you around Thanksgiving? There's a good Turkey Chase on Thanksgiving morning in Bethesda.
