Doug Gillard back in the line-up, sounding good to me:

Have fun at the Philly show JGJR. Who is going to NYC one :?:

I love GBV really I do. But how many times have they broken up and reformed?

The late 90s/Early 00s line up with Gillard was their high point, IMO. Amazing guitarist, and that whole band was just a tight, crushing unit. The perfect rock machine for Pollard's songs. I always had a hard time getting into the early lo-fi stuff, even though some of the songs are great... the half-ass recording and playing quality is often so bad it really makes those records hard to listen to.

Plus, Gillard is responsible for probably my favorite GBV song, "I Am a Tree" which is a reworking of one of Gillard's songs from his previous band Gem:

Thanks! I saw video of them playing "Tractor Rape Chain" in Asheville the other night and they sound fantastic. I'm looking forward to watching this.

It's really just Pollard calling himself GBV. The classic lineup broke up a few years ago.

I saw this line-up (minus Gillard) over the summer and they were great. I can only imagine they're even better with Doug. That said, the NYC show is New Years Eve and priced accordingly. I am still on the proverbial fence.

The Oranges Band show that I saw with Doug Gillard on lead guitar was mind-blowingly great. This is also excellent:

Glad it worked out for both you two and for Matthew and his now wife.

Last time we went on New Years Eve was an excellent night. The band was on point. But then again, I was drinking back then too.

I think that's my favorite GBV song. Pretty sure.

And Nada Surf totally rock!
