So I happen to own a copy of the Doughboys (on the label it's "Dough Boys", I'm not sure if that's a mistake or how they spelled it initially)
promo seven inch from 1988. I have never been able to track down much solid information on this record, but apparently it came out in 1988 on MTL. records. The record contains different recordings of songs from the first album, "Your Related"/"Stranger from Within"/"Forecast". There is no cover. From what I can gather, they were never commercially available, possibly sold on their first tour, and were meant to be sent to radio stations across Canada and the US. I have heard there were 500 pressed, but the majority of those were somehow damaged (probably the Great Wyndmoor Flood of '91) and only a couple hundred actually exist. I found it at a local record shop a couple of decades ago and bought for like a buck. It has been quite sometime since I actually listened to it.
About a year ago, I read, here on the Dagboard, about that "Discogs" site. I checked it out and decided that it would be fun to put my collection up there. Over the course of the next couple of months I got most of it up there. Occasionally, I had something that wasn't already listed. For the most part, I just skipped it because it seemed really complicated to add a new entry and frankly, I just didn't care enough to deal with it.
When I searched for this particular "Dough Boys" record it wasn't there. I decided I'd enter it, it's only three songs, and wondered if anyone would ask me about it. Well, in the 8 months since I entered it, I have received 11 inquiries (most of them from the Montreal area) into selling this record. The most recent one came yesterday, and the guy offered to swap me the
Red Rockers "Guns of Revolution" seven inch, including the band photo cover, which sold on popspike in 2012 for $721. I was a little stunned. I had no idea that Dough Boys record could be something that valuable. I have always wanted a copy of the Red Rockers single. I don't really need the sleeve, but it would be cool to have.
So I ask the record nerds of Daghouse, should I do this? Should I even trust this guy? Has anybody ever seen this Dough Boys record for sale? If so, for how much? Not that I look often, but I have never seen it on popspike. Has anyone ever seen this Dough Boys record anywhere? Thoughts, opinions?
Hello.
