The recorded version (on Nushu's GREAT covers EP Joystick) is a bit better, though not necessarily more ballsy than that live version. I'm glad you dig it, though.

Always been into NMA. Everything up to Thunder And Consolation is solid, after that it's patchy. First three are great, especially first and third albums. The lyrics were a big influence for me. In fact, my old band's name was partially inspired by a line from NMA. Every now and again I'll just have a New Model Army day and play all their stuff. Never seen 'em live, have an old pal who's a full on follower (with clogs) but I never wanted to pay the ticket prices, so always skipped 'em.

To Clash77,

I like NMA and TV21 a lot.

There was a TV21 discog CD from a few years back on Cherry Red, but everything was unfortunately mastered from vinyl. I would also say NMA's first four are essential - haven't heard anything after that really.

I saw them twice (both times in 2005, incidentally) and they were superb. I'm kind of with Gary, though. I have a few of their records and a best of comp and I like them quite a bit, but I feel like I need to spend more time with them because I really like everything I've heard by them and yeah, great lyrics!

Not even a close comparison for me. I grew up on the mod revival bands from the UK (Secret Affair, Lambrettas, Gents, Purple Hearts, etc.). The Lambrettas version of Poison Ivy was a big hit around around my school. I wore a Secret Affair badge with pride. However, all of these bands were dwarfed by the Jam. Because of the Jam, their is no need to mention UK post punk in a comparison.

I'll have to know that my avatar is the new Spoon album and its one of 2014's best. Make a brave jump into years that occurred after 1977 and get with the program.
