Here are a few Morphine ticket stubs from the late '90s that I've kept all of these years.

Never did have opportunity to see them live, but enjoyed their stuff.

I’ll put on “In Spite of Me” and raise a mug of chai today.

Beautiful stuff; dobro or mandolin from someone in Blood Oranges iirc. It's a good friend's favorite Morphine song. Good choice.

In reality, it's either a horrible choice or an ironic one.

Unlike pretty much anything in their catalog, that song has no drums and no bass, so neither dead band member's talents are featured in that song. :D

(Ok, Mark is singing.)

But it's probably my favorite Morphine song as well, possibly because it's so out of the norm for them.

Just a quick add on here: this cover sounds like the bouncing souls got a hold of “in spite of me.”

This one is one of my favorites, too. I think it's just Mark on vocals and acoustic guitar. I'd also post "Swing It Low" but I think Billy is on drums on that one and there's some synth or something in the background, too, or at least that's what it sounds like. The first comment also mentions "In Spite of Me." Sad songs say so much.

I couldn't imagine that combo working at all when I read that, but listening now, it's not bad at all (I kinda like it)! And yeah, that singer does sound a bit like Greg!

Great band. So sad!
I am glad, a friend turned me on to them and I had a chance to see them live like 6 month later.
Listening to Punk today is like listening to Glenn Miller in 1982.
