New Neil Young

New Neil Young

Sal posted about Neil in another thread. I have been enjoying the Neil channel on SiriusXM. Here's the new tune. Not trying to be a smart-ass at all, is Billy OK? He looks like he doesn't know where he is:

I'll be listening this afternoon, but I do not have high hopes based on what I've heard so far. I think Neil has taken the whole "first take, best take" vibe a little too far.

This is brutally awful. I gave up on him about 20 years ago, seems the right call.

His last excellent record was PSYCHEDELIC PILL from 2012. None of the studio albums since then have been worth more than a cursory listen. It's a shame as he managed to play some excellent shows with a new, younger band for awhile there (Promise of the Real). But it may be time to put the Horse out of its misery.

Neil Young, Tom Waits, and Jeff Buckley are the top 3 spots of my ‘don’t get the massive adoration of’ list. Love Bob Dylan, tho. Go figure.

I liked the guitar sounds that he made for the soundtrack of Jim Jarmusch‘s movie Dead Man,
but that‘s it.
Listening to Punk today is like listening to Glenn Miller in 1982.

Reminds me of the last Iron Maiden concert I saw. Singer kept using guitar solo breaks sneak back and huff off a big oxygen tank concealed in the drum riser.

We're all getting older: Can't blame him.

Maybe this concert was in Denver or somewhere the air is thin. :)

In fairness, the way Bruce Dickinson runs around would make most 30 year olds need an oxygen tank. NY needs it just to stand up.

It would be even better though if 'Dick' would shut up and sing. His social skills are rather lacking.

BD has always been the worst Iron Maiden singer.

I dunno. I love those DiAnno albums. But Dickinson of the most athletic frontmen in the history of rock. Even to this day. Paul DiAnno can’t even hardly god damn stand up let alone slap his butthole with his ballbag.

I love everything through Seventh Son... then it gets really spotty, but most of their records from that point forward are good for one or two rippers.

And this "Bruce is the Worst Iron Maiden singer" is the "Henry ruined Black Flag" argument of metal.

I do believe I agree. Also, is the claim really being made that BD is inferior to Blaze Bayley?

Yes, that is the claim. He doesn't understand that he's on stage and not in a WWII fighter plane or whatever.

Look, I get it. Really, I do. Iron Maiden is always going to be cheesey, and that's part of the appeal. It's just that they're like Rush to me: amazing musicians but the vocals and lyrics just completely kill any enjoyment. He's so goofy. I really liked the Blaze years because he wasn't clowning, he was just a metal dude singing.

I much preferred Blaze in Wolfsbane, but dude, this is approximately a million times cheesier than anything Maiden ever did:

Iron Maiden are still great, Bruce Dickinson rules, the new album SENJUTSU is a total ripper and Paul DiAnno was awesome for two albums. I’ll take the Bruce years any day

I can see the DiAnno Vs Dickinson debate. But Blaze Bayley can fuck off, die, and then go to hell.
