..but I think I like Mark Lanegan more than I ever liked Nick Cave.

Actually on 2nd thought, I'm 100% sure.

On record, 100% yes. Live, the exact opposite.

I have no interest in seeing Nick Cave live, so....yeah.

Who fronted the motherfucking BIRTHDAY PARTY? Oh yeah, that was NICK CAVE. I don’t know if I’ve ever even heard Mark Lanegan, but I’m pretty sure that he can suck my dick.

He's the most intense and physical live performer I've ever seen who isn't named Iggy. Both times I've seen Nick Cave, he's just been stunning.

Don't dismiss Lanegan if you've never heard him, though. I haven't heard that much of his solo stuff, but 1999's I'll Take Care of You is stunning, as is his old band Screaming Trees' Invisible Lantern.

I've always thought this, too. I get the CT/Anthrax connection and everything, but still.

Chalk and cheese. Totally different styles and influences.

I like both artists but for different reasons.

With Lanegan I'm much more well versed in his old band's material than his solo career. Pretty much everything Screaming Trees did from '87 up through the very end was good. I also like his solo album Whiskey and the Holy Ghost. Beyond that I've not heard enough of his solo stuff to have a huge opinion on it.

Pretty much everything the Birthday Party did was good, but they weren't together that long and only made 2 real full length albums. For Nick Cave's solo career, I generally prefer the first few albums from the 80s. After Your Funeral My Trial, I sort of lose interest, though I think he continued to make good music. I thought Push the Sky Away from 2013 was a strong later album. Haven't heard the last couple of albums at all.

Just got Nick Cave/Warren Ellis tix. When Lanegan tours I’m sure I’ll go.
Both are still amazing, vital artists. Nicks recent music is weird. It’s not Rock. He’s onto something different where him and Warren have mixed their soundtrack sounds into the music and have just gone off somewhere.......but I’m digging most of it.

Lanegan still doing his blues-meets-darkwave-Tom Waits thing with a string really good albums going.
Loved him with Greg Dulli. Saw Twilight Singers and Gutter Twins a few times, always great.
