I never paid much attention to GENERATION X, but I was asked to play a set of covers for a Halloween show coming up and damn, they are pretty terrific band (even if they cheated and sped the tape up on some of their songs).

You should check out Tim Hinely’s new book, Mudge. There’s a lengthy discussion of the My War tour — you can read up on what youse missed.

I barely remember what the unreleased album sounds like or if I've even listened to it, but I agree with the rankings of the 1st 3 studio albums. I'll go one step further, though.

1) S/T U.S.
2) S/T U.K.
3) Valley of the Dolls/Kiss Me Deadly (tie)

I think KMD is more consistent, but Valley has higher heights if that makes sense, especially the title track, "King Rocker" and "Running with the Boss Sound."

Fun fact: when I and Jack Rabid interviewed Milo and Bill back in 2016, we spent probably 15-20 minutes of the hour-long chat talking about Generation X and that 1st album in particular and our mutual/shared love for it.

Definitely some major similarity here between the verse riff here and the riff in "She's My Ex"

Never noticed that and haven't owned his debut in quite some time, but I remember reading (maybe on here) a while back that Bill was obsessed with Rebel Yell to the point that they wore the tape out in the van during that exact period (late '80s) and the production of Allroy Sez reflects that, etc.

No joke. It's the same riff. Wow. "She's My Ex" is still a much better song, though that Billy Idol track is pretty good, too, to the poin where I feel like I should get that album again if I see in a dollar bin or something.

Yeah, Bill and Stephen have gone on at length about their obsession with Gen X. Bill pointed out to Pilster how they sped up the tapes on some of the songs and that's why you can't play along with the recordings of say, "Kiss Me Deadly". I think his line was "We wanted the Descendents to play that fast and that tight without...you know, cheating".
