T Rex and the Velvet Underground

T Rex and the Velvet Underground

2 bands that I was mostly ambivalent about most of my life.

Spent some quality listening time with ‘Electric Warrior’ which I tried to like in the past but never did. But this go round I think I actually found some of its finer points upon re-re-evaluating start to finish on a real good set of new headphones. (Yes, they are bEATS).

Same story with Velvet Underground’s “Loaded” album which I don’t think I’ve ever listened to before. It’s actually really good in spite of being recorded in what sounds to be a cardboard box.

THE SLIDER is a terrific record. Other than that one, they're more of a singles band.
I celebrate the entire VU catalog. Except SQUEEZE, but that doesn't really count.

Years ago I went through a big T. rex phase. I even had the soundtrack to the tv show.

Well, yeah. That's always been a great song and it stands out as a single as anyone can hear. But in the past, I didn't think the rest of the songs on that album stood up. Now I'm thinking there are others maybe in the ballpark.

we bought electric warrior when we were 15 or 16 because the cover was cool. was disappointed it wasnt heavy at first then gradually grew to love it. between me and a friend we had maybe 15 tapes so there were maybe 6 or 7 that got a lot of play, EW was on that list with maiden, metallica, priest and the rock n roll high school soundtrack.

All VU is great even the shitty-sounding bootlegs. I never heard SQUEEZE

I really dig T Rex from the s/t album where Marc picks up the electric-gtr. to TANX. The early stuff is a little fey and very English but there are some great tunes in there. “Debora” (the OG single version) being my fave.

Change The Slider to Electric Warrior and I agree with this 100%.

It's not even one of that album's best songs IMO. I prefer "Cosmic Dancer," "Jeepster" and the opener "Mambo Sun." What a terrific album.

Bowie fans really need to listen to his VH1 Story Tellers album start to finish. I like the format of this show a lot.

His Marc Bolan story is funny...

Electric Warrior is great. One of those albums I never tire of. The Slider is good too but I would rank that slightly below EW. Tanx is underrated IMHO.
