Redd Kross "Phaseshifter"

Redd Kross "Phaseshifter"

is now on Spotify. I have been begging for this for years

Yes, I already had the CD in the 90's
and the excellent Third Man Records reissue vinyl version now
and the mp3s in iTunes

But this just hits different.

It's the first one I heard and it's my favorite as well!

I got into them around the time of Neurotica, but we've already established I'm old.

I keep meaning to pick up this one and another. I like Neurotica a lot but never picked up anything else.

If you like that one, Third Eye is IMO an improvement and one of their best records. My favorite is actually Researching the Blues from 2012, but I like their first EP a lot as well. The Gotobeds (a band from Austin, I think, on the 12XU label, which is a Matador sub-label) covered the whole thing a few years back and did a great job with it.

I want to revisit Born Innocent, too. I heard "Linda Blair" recently and was really into it. I had a CD copy at one point, I think.

Of the post-Neurotica era, I'd also say Show World is a very overlooked record very similar to Researching the Blues despite the 15-year break. It's still not on Spotify, but I hope that changes soon.

I'm right smack dab between you two age-wise and it shows here. I first knowingly heard them in probably fall 1990 when "Annie's Gone" was a 120 Minutes fixture.

Fun "Phaseshifter" related fact

I've been rewatching the excellent TV series "Hannibal" and forgot that Brian Rietzel (drummer on Phaseshifter and Show World) does the music for the show.

He has got a ton of notable film and TV credits. He also played drums with that French band AIR (who did the score for The Virgin Suicides) and he worked with Kevin Shields on the Lost in Translation score. Nice work, if you can get it.

Right? Pretty cool.

And man, on rewatch I'm reminded yet again what a fantastic show "Hannibal" was.
