Trouble Is 12"

I realized earlier that when you accidentally play this on 33 1/3 instead of 45 rpm, it sounds like an even more deadpan/lethargic-sounding Stephin Merritt (Magnetic Fields) singing for an '80s metal band. It's kind of amazing.    :bag:

I gotta be honest and say that I never completely warmed to the cover of "12XU" due to that awful solo and whatnot, but I usually let it play through, so I don't find it intolerable or anything. Minor Threat's version> Wire's original version> Dag Nasty's version

"Never Green Lane" is a great song, though.

I think the Gerunds did this one a couple times, at my request. Love that song - and I wanted to sing those backing vocals.

Oh man, I dig that solo. BB channeling his inner-Mustaine. LOL

That's the funny thing, right? I know what he was doing and I don't even mind and even actively kinda like the solo in "Here's to You" that apparently drove Doug C a little crazy  But for whatever reason, maybe because I'd heard the Minor Threat version first (wouldn't get to the Wire version for a few more years), I never fully warmed to it? I dunno.

And I also like some of the Megadeth stuff from that time period. I think Rust in Peace is their best, but Peace Sells... is a great record, but for whatever reason, when punk/hardcore bands tried to play metal in the '80s, it almost never worked IMO. Brian actually had the chops to make it sound good and the creativity to not make it wanky/cheesy as it could've been. That takes a fuckload of talent IMO.
