IDT: Brokeback

No, not Brokeback Mountain, but this 1999 album by Douglas McCombs of Eleventh Dream Day, Tortoise, The Sea and Cake, etc. The late, great Mary Hansen of Stereolab is on this album, too. It sounds like none of those bands, but is definitely still in the "post-rock" (what a silly term) wheelhouse.

I heard one song ("Another Routine Day Breaks") on a playlist yesterday having never heard them or even heard of this project before and immediately bought this reissue on Bandcamp, so yeah it made an impression.

VS, I'm especially thinking of you here.

I listened to the full album earlier and man, I've even more impressed now. I hear everything from Mingus (the way he plays his double bass) to a ton of Badalamenti/Twin Peaks or even spaghetti western type of guitar soundscapes. This is music for meditating, reflecting, relaxing, early morning or late night before falling asleep, you get the idea. I love this record and can't wait for my copy to arrive.

I liked the little bit I listened to. I’ll have to give it a full listen, maybe tomorrow.

For some reason, some of it reminds me a bit of this:

https://hungry-ghosts.bandcamp.com/album/j-p-shilo-s-l-e-e-p

Which is one of my favorite recordings that’s never gotten a hard copy release.

And this:

Which at least came out on CD.

I'll check those out. Thanks. Let me know what you think once you listen to the full album (Brokeback).
