Scream - Fumble and Complete Control Sessions

Scream - Fumble and Complete Control Sessions

Postby version sound » Wed Mar 24, 2021 6:31 pm

These two are definitely the ones I have spent the least time with.

Fumble

Much better than I remembered, but man, it does not sound like Scream to me. It verges on stoner rock. The fact that it wasn’t recognizably Scream was what probably put me off before. Once you adjust to that, it’s good for what it is.

Complete Control Sessions

Again, not the young, fiery Scream I know and love, but not at all bad for a reunion record. Legit question for anyone who owns a hard copy: do Bad Brains get a writing credit for “Jamin at 606”?

Stoner rock??? It sounds like Van Halen if anything. But on a lighter note, I'd rather listen to Fumble than any Van Halen album.

When I saw them, I tried to get them to play 'Rain' off Fumble. They did not comply with my request.

I don't really hear stoner rock as much as I just hear Scream moving further into the rock sound they hinted at since, really...the beginning. I also still hear some later Brains influence as well. "Caffeine Dream" could easily have been on "Quickness"

Midge - that's a bummer - "Rain" might be my favorite track on the album.

I listened to Fumble quickly the other night on Bandcamp. I didn't like it at all. I did hear some Bad Brains in the sound too.

I guess I need to add Scream to my list of band's to listen to and pick my favorite songs. I suspect it will be very few after the first album or two.

“Gods Look Down” and “Dying Days” in particular are a few steps more into metal or maybe even a “Seattle” sound than anything else they ever did. I called it stoner rock, but I don’t listen to stoner rock, so what do I know. This was easily the least Scream-ish record they ever made.

I just checked my copy and indeed they do credit Bad Brains. It says "Except Jamming at 606 (Originally titled "At the Atlantis") Written by Bad Brains.

There's also a Ruts cover ("Demolition Dancing") on there that's properly credited as well. Now I wanna listen to it.

"Demolition Dancing" is one of many great Ruts songs. I wonder if they would have continued in the Ruts DC dub sound had Malcolm cleaned up his act.

That was a pretty decent band with some key players. I bought their disk back in the day when I worked in a record store and just bought everything. Very 'big rock' sounding. I liked it.

Good question! I just put on The Crack; such an amazing Lp.
