Current Netflix faves

1. Canine Intervention
Watched the first few episodes and even though I don't have a dog, I'm really enjoying this. Episode 'Lady MacBeth' about the pit-bull that lost a leg was somewhat of a tear jerker.
I do agree with the show's premise that people need to be trained sometimes more than dogs. Looking forward to the rest of the season.

2. Neal Brennan '3 Mics'
For whatever reason, I've been watching a lot of stand up comedy lately. This dude is very unique. Its not all laughs, not by a long shot. He goes into portions of his monologue where its very pithy and often flat out dark and gripping. Good approach that I've never seen before.

3. As Above, So Below
Fairly intriguing horror movie that gave me claustrophobia and anxiety attacks. Group of college kids go digging deep into the caves looking for historical treasure and get met with all kinds of dirty and evil shit.

4. The Degenerates: Season 2
Back to stand up comedy, Ms. Pat is a raunchy riot and Adrienne IaPalucci is completely out of control.

I watched this once on Netflix.

Can’t You Hear the Wind Howl?: The Life & Music of Robert Johnson

I used to have Netflix about 20 years ago when you mailed the DVDs back. I knew how to copy them back then.

Finished off Season 1 of Canine Intervention. LOVED IT. Such a terrific series. All of the episodes were powerful. I can't see this NOT coming back for another year.
I know its new, but people are going to love this. This dude 'Jas' is going to make a LOT of money, if he doesn't already.

Thanks to the pandemic, I think we've watched all of Netflix. We're gonna drop it and pick up HBOMax.

I'm not particularly thrilled about giving Jeff Bezos any more of my money, but Amazon Prime Video is worth it I need to confess. ( :? And I also subscribe to the Washington Post which shows you how full of shit I am)

Pandemic/ working from home writing and running programs all day has me glued to the screen.

I gave up HULU for the time being. Paying for 5-6 streaming services is kind of ridiculous meethinks. If I can get it down to 3 I'd be happy.

Plus all those grills, right? I'm sure you could throw one hell of a BBQ.

I should move in the basement and you can feed me all day while I lounge around in my underwear and watch cable all day.

I mean you're not entirely wrong, but it is Netflix we're talking about here, not the Criterion Collection or the AFI's 100 Best Films list. I would give my own critique here, but I'm wary of giving away major spoilers.

you're right; given the amount of Netflix (and other streaming services) I watch, it should be 15-20 minimum, but that's not what this thread is for. I just posted some recommendations.

I can see why you think that, but my thought was kind of the opposite. By showing Skid Row, it actually gave more attention to the poverty still rampant in downtown LA as opposed a lot of what's popped up there in the past decade plus or so (which they gave a nod to as well), which is only for the benefit of wealthier residents and visitors, etc.

SPOILER alert: I will say that ultimately, it didn't have much at all to do with the central mystery behind the documentary.

5. Anthony Jeselnik "Fire in the Maternity Ward" and "Thoughts and Prayers"
Really twisted, low brow and intentionally offensive OTT stand up comedy about how he hates kids, his family, and is basically a misanthropic individual. Crude abortion jokes galore. He's insanely hilarious unless you're an uptight PC type.

6. Lunatics: Season 1
2 episodes in and I'm already laughing. Some of it done in a Spinal Tap way. Mockumentary on 6 weirdo characters.

I'd also meant to say that we watched all of the Degenerates specials and some were really, really funny.

7. Penny Dreadful
Started it a while back and got side tracked. Picking up again with Season 2. Oh the drama!

Anyone remember 'Tales from the Darkside"???
Looking to watch those but they've been taking off all pay stream services.

I thought I CARE A LOT was trashy fun, for awhile at least. Sometime in the distant past it would have been an 82 minute black comedy about an awful person getting their comeuppance by an even more awful person. But today it gets bloated to 2 hours by playing both sides and trying too hard to say something about...I dunno, "Women is Society" or something equally silly.

Attempted to watch this just for shits and giggles. It is truly awful as mentioned. Barely made it through 25 minutes before shutting it off.

8. Apostle

Watched this weird ass film twice so far since its release and Imma make my roommate watch it this week with me again. She probably won't like it much, but we all have to make sacrifices.
Bizarro film often brutal and bloody as all hell with occasional occult moments. Michael Sheen is really good in this though the only other films I liked him in was Underworld and Frost/Nixon.

Who Killed Malcolm X?

Very interesting from a historical perspective and kind of a bummer because it seems like we haven’t made a lot of real progress socially in the last 50+ years.

Not Netflix, but WandaVision on Disney+ was pretty great, at least up until the last couple episodes, which were the typical Marvel/DC flying-superheroes-blasting-energy-beams-at-each- other bit... but the first 7 episodes were completely off-the-wall, nonsensical and absurd, like comics used to do.

Ozark; almost done with season 1 and watching in preparation for the forthcoming season. Holy shit. There is one scene in episode 7 that is some of the best TV I've ever seen.
