Good writer, but some of these stories are pointless and get me pissed off. I wonder if she was trying to show what assholes people can be.

A Deadly Influence by Mike Omer
No idea what I'm getting myself into here. I'm going into this by a suggestion from Amazon based on my reading taste. Probably some dark, psychotic shit up ahead.

That collection went everywhere with me when I was 18, 19. Tried to put on True West at my high school (a year or two after I graduated) but the administration wouldn't go for it. Fuckers.

That would’ve been amazing. I’ve read four of the seven plays thus far. They’re all good/interesting but True West is my fave. I’d love to see it performed.

There was a version with Gary Sinise and John Malkovich that was broadcast on PBS in 1984 that blew my little mind wide open. I think you can watch it on YouTube.
I also got to see Vincent D'Onofrio star in a production of The Tooth of Crime in the early '90s. Can't say I understood much of what was going on (it is a LOUD r'n'r musical and we were sitting in the front row almost under D'Onfrio's boots most of the time), but the visceral impact was massive.

I’ll look for the Malkovich/Sinise version. I would’ve loved to see it with Peter Coyote.

The D’Onofrio production sounds awesome. Tooth of the Crime seems like it’s much better experienced than read.

Just finished the Audiobook of I Alone Can Fix It by Carol Leonnig and Phil Rucker.

Washington Post reporters collaborate on a pretty shocking book. Well...maybe not that shocking. I was actually impressed and happy to hear that a LOT of the cabinet Republicans really tried to do the right thing and stop this maniac former pres from a ton of ridiculous (and illegal) bullshit.

Prediction is that they get a Pulitzer for this. Carol already has a few.

Also working through The Book of Black Magic and of Pacts by Arthur Edward Waite. Kinda meh to start. Hope it picks up.

I just got Ska Boom! by Marc Wasserman in the mail a few days ago and am really looking forward to digging into it.

It's an oral history of American ska and reggae from 1980 to 1993.

Is that where the WaPo celebs hang out? You should invite me down on a regular basis. If Carol (or Phil) told me to shut up, it would be an honor.
As far as Mr. Vidal is concerned, we all know how he wound up after he mouthed off to me.

Dangerous Visions 1967. Science fiction short story anthology.
Razorcake zine Issue #123. Good columns. Especially Jim Ruland's "Where's Dando" column. I guess some things have not changed.
Directions to the Outskirts of Town: Punk Rock Tour Diaries Still working through Welly's book. Geez. I'm glad I don't drink anymore. I could never tour with a band like Chaos UK. I'd be dead if that was now.
Steven Comic by Doug Allen. Re-buying all the old issues. I miss it.

Ordered the hardcopy of: Punk USA. The Rise and Fall of Lookout! Records.

I’m a good way through “The Outlaw Bible of American Poetry”.

Borrowed it from my roommate. It was published in 1999 and has a lot of familiar names but mostly unfamiliar to me. Plus a bit of their backstories and the probable reasons for their obscurity. Lots of this material is really good shit. Got a few of them in trouble with the police back in the day.

My wife got me this book that should be right up my alley - it's about George Harrison and Eric Clapton and the time that their lives and careers intersected. It covers "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and ALL THINGS MUST PASS and LAYLA and when they both played with Bonnie & Delaney, their mutual obsession with The Band, the insanity that was their mutual love for Patti Boyd, etc. But I have to say, Eric Clapton's most recent trajectory into full blow asshole-ism is really keeping me from digging in too deep. Sure, you can counter that he's always been an asshole, and that's totally fair. But trying to read this a few days after he put out that abomination of a song (I'm not gonna link to it, but you can find it easy enough) is all but impossible.

I'd argue it's pretty consistent with what really made him a full-blown asshole back in the '70s.

I'm reading

2 Tone - Before, During, and After

There is a chapter for every band that released a record on the 2 Tone label including Elvis Costello & the Attractions. Each chapter gives a history of the band, discussion on recording sessions and releases including BBC and Top of the Pops appearances, and a section on what each band member including guest musicians on releases has been up to after the band.

If you like this era at all, I highly recommend the book and I am only thru The Specials, The Selecter, and a portion of the Madness chapter.

Great book, I would have liked some more insight on his studio sessions with The Ramones, but overall it was well written. I may check out some of his lesser known projects now
