Minor Threat - Out of Step
Uniform Choice - Screaming for Change
Gorilla Biscuits - Start Today
7 Seconds - Old School (not on the list but should be)
DYS - Brotherhood

Honorable mention:
Slapshot - Step on It (cringeworthy lyrics, though, but less so if you take it as comedy)

Other than Minor Threat....this is my favorite. Just a really well produced, fun album of yester-year.

I know Out Of Step was a 12", but I've always considered it to be a mini-lp.

Start Today gets my vote.

Unity "Blood Days" was a mashup clusterfuck.

I love the original "You Are One" ep.

Blood Days was 7 new tracks recorded in the late 80s with the instrumental tracks of the You Are One ep (from 1985) with Dubar's horrible re-recorded vocals (from the same time they recorded the new tracks) over it.

Pretty good 5 record stretch right there.

SS Decontrol - Get It Away
Minor Threat - Out of Step
DYS - Brotherhood
Stalag 13 - In Control
Ill Repute - What Happens Next?

Flattered to be on the list but I don't think there's a single straight edge song on Shattered Dreams.

Let it be known that I would take Chain of Strength compilation LP over the whole list, but since you asked...

Minor Threat - Out of Step
Gorilla Biscuits - Start Today
Insted - What we Believe
Unbroken - Life, Love, Regret
Turning Point - It's Always Darkest before the Dawn

He actually asked me to do an interview for the book, but then it never happened...

Do people really consider "Life.Love.Regret." an SXE record? Great album but little to do with SXE IMHO.

Of the albums on the list I would probably pick the following:

Screaming For Change
Start Today
Bringin' It Down
We're Not In This Alone
It's Always Darkest...

RE: the rest of the stuff on the list - plenty I like, some I don't, and some I've never heard.

RE: Trial, great live band but they never quite managed to capture the energy and aggression in the studio IMHO.

Same; had AT actually released it as planned, it would've had the same or perhaps an even great impact. I think it's one of the best hardcore recordings ever. I feel the same way about the Articles of Faith compilation Core, even though that one is a compilation of 7"s, demos, comp tracks, etc. and not a scrapped Lp to the best of my knowledge. Like Old School, it didn't come out until the early '90s, but it's their best work. Well, for 7 Seconds, they lasted a lot longer and had more phases, obviously, so there's the caveat that it's my favorite stuff ot their hardcore era. My favorite overall is New Wind.

My problem with The Crew is the guitar sound. It has that weird reverb on it that dulls the impact and the vocals are mixed just a little too high IMHO on some tracks. Still a very good album, but Old School will always be better to me despite the raw recording.

I'm a big fan of Core as well. Though I do think the final AOF LP is very good, though obviously different in style. Give Thanks is a weird album, maybe due to the production. Kind of annoying that when AT did their AOF reissues they didn't release all the Core stuff on it. I'm guessing they didn't want to make a third CD or whatever. The Core CD also has extra tracks that are not on the LP version.

Agreed on The Crew. It's a great album, but it sounds like it was recorded in an alley.

Core - I have the CD; would love to have the Lp, too; I forgot that the CD has extra tracks and agreed on what AT did. Even if they'd included them all, there's something about those songs in that order that I'm used to, etc.

Interesting, given how often our musical interests align, I assumed we were around the same age. Just curious, when did you get into hardcore? It’s kind of surprising (to me, at least) not to at least see Minor Threat in your Top 5...
