NY Mid 1980's crossover

Postby xxxMidgexxx » Fri Feb 22, 2019 11:19 pm

I sorta liked it marginally back in the day, but lately I'm totally immersed in

LUDICHRIST 'Off the Board' live at CBGB tape.
CRUMBSUCKERS 'Life of Dreams'
LEEWAY 'Born to Expire'
AGNOSTIC FRONT 'Cause for Alarm'

and I always loved

PRONG 'Force Fed'
DAMAGE 'Live off the board at CBGB'

Funny how everything goes full circle. Decades.....

Life of Dreams may be the best crossover record ever made, unless you consider Slayer crossover.

I vividly remember seeing this ad for BOMB in Thrasher and being bummed out. "Oh, they think they're Anthrax now."

Yup... and even Exodus tried that 'tone down the evil, beef up the good times fun' look for a while.

I did not have to buy it....
and I did not have to try it.

And I am glad they turned back to a darker attack.

What next, fer godssakes? Brian Baker playing in Ugly Kid Joe?

'Hell Awaits' and 'Haunting..' were crossover. They've always professed their love for punk and HxC. It's what pushed them up the ladder.

Force Fed is OK but Beg to Differ is a complete tour de force that I play regularly to this day.

Lethal Aggression,

I loved their demo. Saw their first show ever at L'Amours in Brooklyn. Jon Saltz ate too many ludes before the gig. They played 'Spooge' and then after that he lost the mic.

Stumbled off stage and the band called it quits after 3, 4(?) songs. Shorter set than GG Allin.

Decibel magazine put it into their Hall of Fame. I think its their best selling album.

I love Leeway. Semi hot take but I actually prefer “Desperate Measures” over “Born To Expire”.

Haha he was usually way in point no matter what he was on. RIP to him. He was invited to try out for Metallica once (he was one of their roadies when they were living in Jersey).

Lulz. Instant write-off when these bands (Wehrmacht,mod/sod, dri, etc) went through their ‘zany’ phases.

Absolutely not. Agnostic Front's first album was pure hardcore. The best of the best. By the time the 2nd album was being written, they had Alex from Cause for Alarm playing 2nd guitar.
Stigma was toned down in the mix and Alex was turned up, fact had it that Roger wanted speed metal because they loved Exodus and Metallica, and that was not Stigma's thing. He was pure old school hxC.

Lewdd,

Check out:

AF- Liberty & justice...
Crumbsuckers- Life of dreams
Cro-Mags- Age of Quarrel(the LP not the demo)

Those are the best NY-crossover albums IMO

That album got shredded in so many zines. Its TOTAL SPEED METAL.

Will Sheplar rocked that kit though. I still love this album, Agnostic Front showed ZERO punk roots on this one. Its TOTAL Kreator, Slayer, Metallica Exodus.....speed metal

Yes, I used to have a friend that actually liked scatterbrain. I made fun of him quite a bit. Funk metal garbage. They did have a great album cover by Robert Williams if I recall. Back when album covers meant something. Totally misleading.

3 way tied with the Accused "Return Of Martha Splatterhead" and "Maddest Stories" for me.

Crumsuckers were on fire on that lp.
