It doesn't have to suck.

It only sucks if you do things the typical way most people do, which means you lose before you even start.

When I bought my new car, I never stepped foot in the dealership. I got financing through an outside bank, which was better than anything a dealer would've offered me.

Then, three days before the end of the month, I called every dealership in a 40 mile radius that had the car I wanted and told them they could bid for my business, which means I would buy the car from whomever could give me the best price. Not every dealer wanted to play ball, but ultimately it didn't matter, because several did.

In the end, the car was delivered to my workplace and I paid significantly less than sticker.

My SO did the same thing when she bought her new car, and the dealer even delivered the car from 200 miles away in the next state over.
