DESCENDENTS show

So on Thursday I saw Descendents. They were great (as always), it was a nice outdoor venue in St. Petersburg that has great views (it's basically in a courtyard downtown surrounded by buildings on all four sides.) So Rehasher (Roger for Less Than Jake's pop-punk band) opened, they were fine. Then some dudes called Radkey played too long and did 3 chord Ramones/Misfits stuff, but of course sounded like watered down, uninspired versions of such. Boring. As they played I was thinking "They better play 8 songs and get the fuck off the stage", which of course they didn't. Since this was an outside show, it was cut off at 11pm so Descendents played less an hour, which was kinda lame. I mean, they crammed many songs into that time frame, but Bill seemed to not know the sound was gonna get cut off at 11pm. Oh well. It was first show of the tour and they all seemed to be in great moods, I noticed little changes in some songs (like on Silly Girl some syncopated fills and stuff) like they were just having fun. Not sure why they have any opening bands, even more so ones that play too long and cut their set short. I was up front singing (off key) like a fool with a goofy grin on my face.

But the reason I'm posting is too give a thumbs up to Chris Shary for the below shirt:

While I've bought ALL and Descendents records since forever, I have not bought any t-shirts since Bill was a huge cock to me in '89 about homemade shirts, but I just couldn't pass this one up. Well done Chris! Do you know if they are using the same design for other states as well?

Thanks very much. I used to go to St Pete in the summers as a kid (my grandparents loved there), and all I can think of if cranky old drivers.

We are only using this design for Florida. New ones for the rest of the tour. Glad you enjoyed it!

Jannus Landing?

I saw so many great shows there 1987-93.

But never the descendents. They always were at Cuban Club or other Tampa venues, IIRC.

Yeah, it was Jannus. I think last time they played here was at Jannus in '97 also. It has a nice vibe. Better than a stuffy club.

Plus, as an added bonus, you can sneak over the wall behind it and jump right down into the show!

… Or so some ridiculous high schooler thought, trying this to get into a Gang Green or Social D show. And was promptly pinched by the bouncer and escorted out. This may have been me. Memory fuzzy.

Saw Jawbox in the little club in front of JL once too. Chatted with Baker a bit prior to a BR show there...

Just a hoppin' little downtown.

Can't recall a Descendents/ALL show there. Hmm. I saw them at some defunct teen nightclub ("Chances") with the Doughboys in Tampa.

Seeing them in Philly in August. Can't wait. Smoking Popes are playing with them, it's the ideal lineup for me.
