Teen Idles get dismissed too easily. Great record. I personally prefer it to the first two Minor Threat EPs, maybe because it still sounds unique because it hasn't been ripped off by other bands endlessly for the last several decades. As for "Deadhead," I'm not sure how old you are, but I remember the early '80s when Deadheads, hippies, and heavy metal dudes were all generally included in the same group known as "grits" or "heads." Those fuckers were the punk's enemy because, just like the rednecks and servicemen (aka squids), they were the group most likely to threaten you with physical violence for showing any outward sign of punkness. As little as a Sex Pistols button on your shirt or jacket was enough to inspire heavy duty harassment and threats. In short, fuck those guys.

I'll be 45 in July.....middle-aged....but not old enough to have been there in the '80s, so fair enough....that's exactly the type I've comment I'd welcome on the blog. I'm only giving my perspective....but other perspectives are welcome for sure....in fact, I encourage it....especially from those who can put these records into context in a way that I might not be able to.

Hopefully that didn't come across as criticism, it was meant as context. I enjoyed the blog, and I agree that that hippies and punks had no real reason to be enemies (and I actually enjoy the Dead myself these days). I'm only 46 myself, but I found punk at a pretty young age (like 8 or 9), which wasn't too uncommon. I think Alec was like 12 or 13 when he was in the Untouchables.

I'm kind of inspired to try to restart my Dischord listening project (same thing as you, listening to everything in chronological order by release, including splits, finding stuff on YouTube when not available on Bandcamp or Spotify). I made it only up through their late '80s releases and gave up, though I'm a huge fan of the label overall until at least the early '90s.

I'm really hoping to generate conversations via the comments on the blog (underneath the blog entry). If the blog ends up getting any type of readership, I'm guessing that might actually happen....but feel free to post comments as you listen along.
