Got to see him on the Echo tour in 1999. What an amazing songwriter. RIP.

I managed to see him 3x - twice when the Replacements opened for him in '89 and again in '94 or so. I never thought much about the live show. As good as the band was they played the whole 'let's really stretch out on this one' card too much for my tastes. But there is no denying that he has written as many great songs as just about any American rock songwriter. And he did without any of the 'striving for significance' that frequently gets in the way of guys like Springsteen and Mellencamp.
He will be missed.

I never got to see him live and I don't own any of the records (I'd like to change that), but I ALWAYS liked him. I'm playing the Greatest Hits now on Spotify. Just about EVERYONE liked him and that is a rarity. He's (obviously) going to be missed.

I think I saw him on this tour as well....out west - some cool outdoor amphitheater a little outside of San Francisco. Steve Earle opened. Howie Epstein was still playing bass for him (he ended up passing away in 2003).

An iconic songwriter and another huge loss to the rock world.
