Love this!

For about the last 5-6 years I've gotten super lazy about seeking out new music. But, now armed with a premium Spotify account, and threads like this, I'm like a pig in shit. Thanks!

Sure thing. When it comes to new bands, Spotify is usually my first stop. If I really like something I''ll either go out of my way to pick up a physical copy at a show (like I did with the Big Eyes record) or buy something from bandcamp.

In no order (besides Dents which is a clear #1 for me)

LP's:

Descendents "Hypercaffium Spazzinate"
Dark Blue "Start Of The World"
World Be Free "The Anti Circle"
New Rising Sons "Set It Right" (unreleased until 2016 ---- I'm counting it!)
Nothing "Tired Of Tomorrow"
Bob Mould "Patch The Sky"
Beach Slang "A Loud Bash Of Teenage Feelings"
Bayside "Vacancy"
For Pete's Sake "In Faith And Loyalty" (RIP Peter Amdam)

EP's:

Descendents "Spazzhazzard"
Dark Blue "Vicious Romance b/w Delco Runts"
Burn "...From The Ashes"
Dag Nasty "Cold Heart b/w Wanting Nothing"
Red Hare "Lexicon Mist"
Praise "Leave It All Behind"

For once, I decided not to really think too hard on these things and just go by stuff I actually listened to repeatedly. There's a lot of good albums that came out this year that would've made my list if I spent more time with them (Dino Jr being a big one I can think of off the top of my head) but I'd be lying if I put it cause I only played once!

I didn't listen to a lot of new music this year, save for the new Descendents and D-Generation Lps, which are both excellent. I don't wanna be left out so I'm going to list stuff I listened to a lot this year (and loved) regardless of when it came out:

Frank Sinatra - Ultimate
Blue Oyster Cult - first album
Redd Kross - Researching the Blues
The Jam - Fire and Skill
Circle Jerks - Live at the Fillmore
Teenage Fanclub - Shadows
Immortal - Sons of Northern Darkness
Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse
Rockpile - Seconds of Pleasure
Supergrass - Supergrass Is 10
The Clientele - Suburban Light
The Shadow Morton Story

I'd love to own this, but the international shipping is quite a lot (of course).

Yeah, it wasn't cheap, but that is Australian dollars. I think it was about $15 US total.

At current exchange rates, it comes out to $18. I ordered pre-Trump, when the dollar was a little stronger.

Technically not a 2016 record, but I'm listening to the re-issue of the last album by Trembling Blue Stars on beautiful orange vinyl, the Elefant-anniversary one. Bobby Wratten is a bonking genius. Any love here for him?

I got one of those Amazon Echo Dot things as a work gift. I know the novelty will wear off, but I get a big kick out of walking around my apartment yelling, "Alexa, play me some Thelonius Monk", or "Alexa, play Red Barchetta by Rush"

Jesus. The Heaters' "American Dream" is astonishingly good. If you like sixties (and aughts) girl groups, you need to hear this.

I liked a lot of things but my two revelations of the year where:

-JANK - Versace Summer (Very poppy emo)
-Cocaine Piss - The Dancer (Noisy female fronted Belgian punk band)

Seriously, if by wonder Cocaine Piss comes to venue near you, check 'em out, 15 minutes of unfiltered fun. Only concert I ever went to where I was tired as fuck after only 8 minutes.

I was pleasantly surprised by it actually. There's a few songs that are a bit dated topic-wise like 'Canadian Hate-triot' about former Prime Minister Stephen Harper and 'The New Black' about Obama, but I think this record has been in the works for a few years. Plus, their new drummer Blind Marc is way better than Jesus Bonehead (who the the song 'The Dishwasher' is about) .
