Modern Life Is War? My old band got to play w/ them at Gilman. They were so good live. Broke up in '08 and are back now. Been meaning to hear this new one. I didn't really like the last album they did before they broke up. It's one of the only J. Robbins productions I can't get into.

VS, Hunter must've seen a great Ft. Reno cos I have the Blockhead cassette release & they're one of the best new h/c things I've heard in ages :!:

1. Virgin Suicides- film sdtk
2. Once Upon a Time in the West (Ennio Morricone)- film sdtk
3. Turgid Squirrels - rehearsal demos w/ Krrl & Aimee (x- The Factory Incident/ currently in Technostress), Jonathan Rickman (x-Eggs/currently in Talk-it) + Scott Newhaun. I've recently been asked to lay my vocal touch to the band. :D
4. Kitchen of Distinction - The Death of Cool
5. Killing Joke - Singles Collection 1979 - 2012 (Deluxe)
GI is a group of grown men who enjoy torturing each other and the crowd.

I've been enjoying this on the car stereo during my work commutes this week. Foolishly I had no idea their early material sounds completely different to the later era releases. I had only heard the "industrial"-sounding KJ, and have been blown away by Disc 1 as it appears to be somewhat chronological. Time to hunt down their early material.

Today at work I've listened to:

Soul Side - Soon Come Happy
Factory Incident - Redtape
Zero Boys - Vicious Circle
Pop Will Eat Itself - New Noise Designed By A Sadist
Fear - Have Another Beer With Fear
DI - Team Goon
Carcass - Surgical Steel (spinning now)

On first listen, I agree with what you'd stated about it being more "atmospheric" (though I came up with that word) than some of their previous stuff. I dig it, though, and it reminds me the most of their early singles (the stuff that ended up on Weirdo Rippers) and more so than either of their previous Lps. The only song where I thought they were breaking new ground for them was the one with the (synthesized?) strings, so I don't buy the press release talk about it being so radically different, etc.

I'd also forgotten how great parts of Nouns are, so it was nice to revisit it. It was in my Top 10 for 2008.
