Yeah. I should've bought one, but just bought the new Lp. I listened to "Maimed for the Masses" at the gym via Spotify. Is it way OOP or something?

I don't think so but since it's on Fat and not GM I didn't get it with my order.

OK good that it's still available. I still should've snagged it and some other stuff, though (both their stuff and Zero Boys).

Saw somewhere in here that Scanny chose a bunch of You Am I but no "Hourly, Daily". Surprised someone here digs them as much as me but thinking that release may be my personal favorite. The band has also been brilliant the 3 times I've seen them + Russell will dedicate an old punk cover to me onstage like "Los Angeles" or "Chinese Rocks". I take it you've seen them live? Nicest fellas you could ever meet to boot.

And JGJR, how is that Minor Alps (Juliana Hatfield + Matthew Caws)? Thinking about seeing them @ Black Cat coming soon.

I only listened to it once so far (it's streaming on soundcloud or bandcamp), but I enjoyed it. Not surprisingly, it sounds more than a bit like Nada Surf's more recent stuff.

I don't know Dif Juz (just the name, not the music), but otherwise that is a solid playlist for sure. I dig those Raveonettes EPs, but "Into the Night" from a few years ago is just an incredible release that I still play regularly and so it's my favorite of all of their EPs.

Imagine Robin Guthrie fronting a surf rock band on 4AD in the '80s. That's more or less what Dif Juz sounds like. I bet they have Soundpool on Spotify. Check it out.

I'm not sure Guthrie is much of a singer (great and very distinctive guitarist/producer, obviously), but otherwise that description sounds like it would be right up my alley.

Robyn Hitchcock - Globe of Frogs Lp
Dick Diver - Calendar Days (terrible name, I know, but great new Australian indie-pop)
Soul Side - "Bass" 7"
The Clash - "Groovy Times" b/w "Gates of the West" white label promo 7"
No Joy - "Hawaii" 7"

I picked up the 7"s above and the Robyn Hitchcock Lp (along with some other stuff I haven't put on yet) at a flea market/record fair yesterday!

Guthrie only produced, he's just a touchstone for the basic sound. Other than two released songs and an unreleased session backing Lee Perry, their entire discography is instrumental.

Sorry, I automatically thought of vocals when I read "fronting."

Anyway,
Part Time - PDA (played 3 times in a row; just side A; it is so good)

I loved the last Nada Surf record (The Stars Are Indifferent to Astronomy). I think I have Jaygun to thank for turning me on to that one.

My wife is a big Silkworm fan (pretty sure she saw them or if not them then definitely Joel RL Phelps at the M Room in front of 5 people or something) and we have a bunch of their stuff and related stuff like Joel RL Phelps' solo discs. Anyway, I've never really listened to them aside from in passing, but have liked what I've heard. Any band with the taste to cover my favorite Comsat Angels song ("Our Secret") is worth investigating for sure.

It was at the Electric Factory, right? Thus, I'm sure as an opener they had shitty sound, a crowd that didn't care about them, etc. I don't think it would have been the optimal place to see them.

You remembered who played at a show that I'm guessing was in '97 or so judging by the lineup (maybe '95, too) and while I usually remember full lineups from shows way back when, I don't always, so that is impressive. It's definitely "Greg memory"!

It was at the Electric Factory, right? Thus, I'm sure as an opener they had shitty sound, a crowd that didn't care about them, etc. I don't think it would have been the optimal place to see them.

The Troc. I honestly don't remember much about the show really. I don't have the archivist mind that you do :D

You remembered who played at a show that I'm guessing was in '97 or so judging by the lineup (maybe '95, too) and while I usually remember full lineups from shows way back when, I don't always, so that is impressive. It's definitely "Greg memory"!

haha Fair enough (It was indeed '97..."Brighten The Corners" was the new Pavement at the time and "50,000 BC" was Shudder)

Welcome to the forum...or to your new name on the forum. I don't think we've ever talked much about Neubauten.
