i will always have a soft spot for blaze era maiden since that was my first show with them in 98 and dio opened. i think the x factor is pretty good, def better then the last two they made with bruce. i think virtual has a couple of good songs, the clansman being the best one. the production however is pretty bad for their style and most of the songs go on too long. looking back, maiden did end up writing better songs with a new singer than any of the other big metal bands did(like priest, anthrax, etc).

Are those really nice sounding and expensive ones like the Shure e3cs I used to have? They were wonderful, as is their customer service, but mine wore out after a few years at best even after the first pair I had wore out.

I've been using my Sennheiser over-the-ear stereo headphones lately.

they are both from 96. one is a live recording in australia - the other, in japan. sound quality was pretty good. oddly enough...i'd always pooh-poohed green day. but my son has been a huge fan since he was about 7. i took him to see them live about a year ago...and i have to admit, they were pretty good. i've actually grown to like several of their songs as a result of constant over-exposure from sam...and i've stopped being so jaded and cynical about them...and in general...because of sam's influence. though he and i completely butt heads when it comes to guns and roses - whom i loathe. and he plays shit like skid row to piss me off. but all in all - he's got pretty good taste. not perfect, like mine, but pretty good. ;)

haha! That's actually a pretty decent era of GD, too. They are one of my favorites and I think they were pretty flawless up until "Nimrod" which I like but could have used someone to cut it from 18 to 12 or so songs.

Danny, have you listened to Warning? It's as close to a mod/pop record as Green Day has done. As a result, it's easily my favorite.

I like "Warning" but that one took a while to grow on me. Leading up to its release I remember them saying they were going for an early GD sound and when I heard that album it was not what I was expecting at the time, at all.

Here's a link to "Metal" Mike Saunders' review of Warning. It's one of my fave pieces of rock criticism ever.

at this point, i've heard them all - but the ones that my son plays most are dookie, 21 century, american idiot and uno/dos/tres. in truth - i like them. my hang up with them was always borne of my inherently jaded punk rock cynicism. i'm older and over all that shit now. they have some pretty catchy songs - and are quite good at the punk/pop thing...though some riffs are obviously nicked from outside influences.

You Am I - Sound As Ever (2 disc re-issue)
You Am I - Hi Fi Way (2 disc re-issue)
You Am I - Hourly Daily (2 disc reissue)

and that's 6 discs so I'll stop there.

Re-listening to these records lead me to following conclusion:
Replacements: '80s = You Am I: '90s.

And anyone who knows me realizes how signifciant that comparison is for me. This is a truly remarkable band.
And this one is on par with "Thirteen" and "Sixteen Blue" and "I'm One" when it comes to nailing adolescence to the wall. Just amazing:

Soul Asylum - Hang Time

Whoa. Another BOLD fan besides me? haha

We've talked about this. I've never been a big fan, but they have their moments. I do really like their 7" much more than the Lp. I do like several songs on the Lp, though, and once sang "Wise Up" (and 7 Seconds' "We're Gonna Fight") on stage with Battery.

The last 7" is definitely the best stuff they ever did.

Shit. I didn't know these existed.

GREAT playlist. Here's mine from earlier today. I agree with you about that Lemonheads record, BTW.

The dB's - "Picture Sleeve" 7"
The dB's - "Judy" 7"
The dB's - "Dynamite" 7"
The dB's - Repercussion Lp
The dB's - Stands for Decibels

I don't have Stands for Decibels on vinyl (and really want one though I shouldn't be buying records now), so I played that on the iPod, but the rest is vinyl.
