Tonight! With TSOL. I don't think I've been this excited for a show since I was a teenager.

"Old Men Yell on Stage" would be a more appropriate headline.

haha very true. But with the day I'm having already today at work, some "Black Flag" would be very theraputic.

You & I both, my constantly mustache-growing friend. ;) Hunter, I don't know (if Meowgirl can make it due to really exhausting early work-schedule  ) but I'm going to try my damnedest to get to this amazing event somehow. This & Cat's recent Anniversary are too events I've been waiting anxiously for months (and with FLAG, maybe forever :!: ) and Keith's being so generous to get me + 1 in. Man, I'm actually contemplating the Marc Train to B'mo but don't think it'll get me back to DC afterwards. Grrrrr. :ugeek: Who are you going there with :?: :!:

Flag played Riot Fest on Saturday. I went into it with super low expectations. I went out of it thinking they were awesome. Best Black Flag cover band ever (I don't consider either version of Black or Flag to be Black Flag) and Keith Morris is still one of the best punk rock singers ever. When Dez sang some songs I was also reminded why he is my least favorite BF singer but even that was alright.

I'd put that in my list of ten best shows I've attended. Both bands were killer. Dukowski (which auto correct wants to change to "Sukiyaki") is the most animated bass player I've ever seen.

Everyone knows that OFF! sounds more like early period Circle Jerks than early period Black Flag. Now I haven't really heard a lot of Flag, but my guess is they sound more like early-mid period Black Flag than early-mid period Circle Jerks. Flag probably has some pf Swa's bass sound mixed in there too.

OFF! = old men screaming new songs
Flag = old men screaming old songs

I'm not above attending the odd reunion show so I can hold it over the heads of those who could not attend, but the whole 50 year old dudes reliving their hardcore youth thing is pretty unseemly.

People get old. If it makes them happy to play a bunch of great songs they wrote a long time ago, I don't see anything unseemly about it -- particularly if they play the songs as well as TSOL and Flag do.

That guy's great at making old stuff seem exciting and new. He's a true artist. You wouldn't catch him trotting out the oldies for a victory lap of a tour.

I saw it and it's intriguing just based upon the VF comparison, but I haven't gotten a chance to check it out yet (soon).

Regardless, I don't believe you re: those shows. That would be a dumb reason to go to a show, especially since as the parent of a toddler you don't get to do it too often (believe me, I know that feeling now).

this is the only place on the internet where i have seen people say they like new dys.

i guess at this point i have no real take on the legitimacy of reunions or not, esp for punks. i just assume 99 percent of them are in it for the money they couldn't get the first time around. if you show up with some guys that wrote the music and the original singer and can play, i will probably fork over my money to see you. as touring gets harder and inflated guarantees continue to be the new trend, i have faced the fact that i will prolly miss most of the reunited bands i really want to see since they only play select cities or one off festivals like chaos or MDF. i mean, FLAG are touring the east coast before they ever did an L.A. show, and that date is at FYF fest.

DYS "Unloaded" is a good song. If you don't like it, you might not like punk rock.

As for a lot of the punk rock reunions just being in it for the money, I disagree. Sure - some are able to draw big crowds, pull in the young kids, and probably do well. But I've seen plenty of aging punk rockers and reunion acts play to very small crowds and empty-ish clubs. If they're just in it for the money, there are better ways to do it. Break even, or maybe take home a little, but I think very few bands are turning it into a really profitable cashgrab. To me it looks like a lot of folks just want to get up and play, and the money is secondary motivation.
