The Dischord comp, not the board personality (though he's certianly had some bona fide hits).

I'm going with "I Hate the Kids".

12xu was always great, hard to single out any band on there as being lackluster, except for the deadline tracks. they are okay, but nothing compared to the 12 inch.

GI's 'Lie, Cheat, & Steal'

John Barry/Brian Gay/Marc Alberstadt (& that other guy) - playing in a way that's just light years ahead of anyone else on the comp. Especially Alberstadt.

Red C takes honorable mention for novelty of composition though.

I loved the Deadline tracks. The 12" never really grabbed me. If it had come out in 82 or 83, I probably would have loved it. By the time it actually came out, my interest in that basic style of hardcore had already waned considerably.

You guys are all acting like Void isn't on Flex Your Head.

You think? I love GI and have a soft spot for Legless Bull but I don't think they showed any flashes of brilliance until Boycott Stabb.

Great songs, but pretty tame compared to Faith/Void.

"Dehumanized" is probably the best Void song, and that recording is so fierce. I'd go with that, though there isn't a bad band on the comp. Took a bit for my young ears to come around on Iron Cross and Red C, but I love it now.

This. My answer is either "My Rules" or "12XU." As for the latter, I love Wire and the original version, but to me Minor Threat's is the definitive version of that tune.

Maybe the worst song on there, other than the frustratingly obligatory version of "Stepping Stone".

Red C - "Pressure's on"
GI - "Lie Cheat and Steal"
Minor Threat - "12XU"

Those are my go-to songs on the comp but really the whole damn thing is good.

 Thanks: Fiesta, Hunter & MXV. Funny but I don't think G.I. showed any brilliance till Make an Effort. I am my own worst critic.

Mine would be a toss up of: Artificial Peace - Suburban Wasteland & Red C - Pressure's On.
Runners up: Minor Threat - 12XU, S.O.A. - Stepping Stone Party & Untouchables - I hate You

Tom Lyle ultimately achieved an amazing guitar tone - but he simply wasn't the crazy, manic bar-chord fanatic that John Barry was. And Barry's frenetic playing paired so well with Alberstadt's jazz fills.

I'm grateful that GI's 1980 demo finally saw re-release - 'Brand New Cataracts' should've stayed in the set.

[All that said, 'You' is still my favorite album.]

red c , void, untouchables, soa. there are so many good bands on here, esp the few that never really recorded anything else. this is the closest thing there is to the perfect hardcore compilation. this one beats out boston, not L.A.

:D Fiesta, you are far too kind about the Bull. Oh, I love JB's crazy guitar, too. And Brian Gay's bass but Marc was the one w/any major musical talent on that EP. I totally prefer the Demos (Thank you, MXV :!: ) much more than the EP. And (ironic as it seems) Brand New Cataracts, was Boyd Farrell (BMB) favorite song of our set. And he actually has one but never got offended by the lyrics. Everybody's Getting Banned is one we should've kept, too. At least I think so.

Tough call - "Pressure's On," "Wasteland," or "Aftermath".
