I bought this on Saturday so I could listen to it while wandering around Boulder. I had heard a lot of the songs on rock radio over the last 34 years but had never listened to the album all the way through. I'm still trying to figure out if I like it or not. Sometimes I think Pink Floyd started running a click track in 1972 and have been playing along to it ever since.

I like The Wall, but prefer The Final Cut, which is basically all the same themes condensed down to one record. My favorite Wall era track, "When the Tigers Broke Free", isn't even on the damn record.

I like Pink Floyd up to and including Animals, but have never been able to get into the last two albums they did with Roger Waters because they are more like RW solo records.

the wall is a pretty awesome record, but unfortunately, like dark side, it has been hacked to death into singles by FM radio since it came out. i would prolly rather watch the film over listening to the record these days.

Most overrated of what I'd call the "first-tier" classic rock radio bands. Like the Grateful Dead, I am confident I have given them more than enough of a shot to safely say I do not get their popularity. A handful of terrific songs over a 20 year recording career does not make a great band.
I was 12 when The Wall came out and should have been exactly the right age to love it, but it always struck me as silly, bombastic and boring. Radio playing the handful of decent tunes to death ("Run Like Hell", "Comfortably Numb") hasn't helped.

Sal hit the nail on the head. Honestly (though I'd still be willing to give the catalog a chance...moreso than Pink Floyd) I kinda feel this way about Led Zep too. They have some awesome songs but as a whole it doesn't really do much for me.

Got it for my 11th Birthday in 1980. Still have it, loved it then, love it now. When I was in high school and college, one of our regular past-times was smoking lots of pot and going to see either The Wall or Heavy Metal at the local multiplex midnight show. It was a great era.

I "get" why people adore them...I have bands like that too. Its always good to be passionate about your likes and dislikes...

I suffered the overexposure as a teen and have been poisoned ever since. Same with the Zep.

The Who wrote great singles...and when Townsend decided to be an meaningful important songwriter he had more productivity but less quality.

I guess I'm saying I don't like"Tommy" or "Next"...more overexposure as a young teen.

actually, i think this is the one thing i could understand people not liking about them. he did have a great voice, but his lyrics were whack and all about love and sex. not like i am looking for deepness in led zep lyrics, but compared to pink floyd, the who and their peers this was their weakest attribute.

I have heard one album out of ten*. The album with a completely different sound, singer and drummer. When I saw them at the Rat, they were the first band on a four band bill headlined by Gang Green. I had never heard of them when I walked into the place. That album was pretty good (if I recall correctly, Al at Suburban Voice gave it album of the year) but it didn't carry me far enough to get to the second album.

In other words, it would be a very short conversation.

As far as how many blues artists had their material.."borrowed" by Jimmy Page and the guy next to him who yelps babybabybabybaby oooooooohhhoooobaby...well..that list is a long one.

I LOVE LOVE Howlin Wolf, Lightning Hopkins, Muddy ect ect the same way I love
Hank Sr, Lefty Frizzell, Buck, George Jones ect...for me those semianl artists hit a raw deep nerve that modern music is incapable of touching.

BUT

I have to be in that mood...mostly I want to hear stupid fun loud rock music.

I'd say I like the others you mentioned, but if I'm being completely honest, Howlin' Wolf is the only blues artist that I listen to on a semi-regular basis. I love Beefheart, but he felt a lot less original to me (at least vocally) once I heard Howlin' Wolf and it's nice to know the source of some of Zep's early material, too.
