Saw that last night. Both team's had hits worse than that, and I think he is a 1st offender too. Goodell must be in charge of NHL suspensions. No fucking consistency.

hardly a first offender. and he had been warned after trying to break kuznetzov's knees two games before that (for which he apologized publicly and claimed to have learned his lesson). i didn't think the hit on orpik was all THAT bad - but i believe the punishment was because it was his third reckless play of the series. the nhl channel did a vidoe montage of his questionable/dirty hits on tv last night - and there were a few. that said, i'm not defending the nhl - they are clowns when it comes to meting out justice.

I meant 1st offender as 1st suspension. Bellamare only received 1 game for his first suspension and the guys are on the same team in the same series. Our season is over so it is not really relevant at this time, and he may not even be back with the Flyers next year.

The only sports league that is consistent is the MLB with their drug policy. You get caught, you get suspended. You get caught a 2nd time, you get suspended for 80 days. You get caught a 3rd time, you are suspended for a year and face lifetime ban. They suck at their sliding rules and lack of consistency for suspension related to that. NBA is not consistent with flagrant fouls. NFL is not consistent with drug policy or illegal hits/tackles or what the fuck is a legal catch.

What is so hard in developing a rule that is clear, concise, and simple for the referee, the player, the coach, and the fan to understand. It was either illegal or it wasn't. The penalty should be clear for whatever the crime was.

Fuck it! I quit watching sports (for at least another 7 hours).

3 games for Orpik. Most guys received less for equal to or worse hits in the playoffs this year. Sounds like 3 games is now the new norm penalty. I wouldn't be surprised if the next suspension of someone is 5 games. Seems like the NHL is trying to make a stand.

He deserved a game or two. Three is a bit too much. It wasn't even that dirty a hit. But this is a case where the league is punishing the result instead of the intent (witness a far dirtier hit against orlov that COULD have broken his neck - but went unpunished because he luckily escaped injury). The league has no credibility in meting out 'justice.' But, it will be just one more excuse for the caps as they, again, flame out in the second round.

Not sure how much national news Drouin got, but man in Tampa that dude was pretty much universally hated for the bush-league stuff he and his agent were pulling earlier this season. With some ill timed injuries (Stamkos etc) he was able to come back to the team and has really assisted the team. The Bolts beat a bad Detroit team and I hope they can get out of this round. Only game I went to this year was opening day. At least I'm consistent with my sporting events and punk show attendance.

Yzerman knew what he was doing by not trading Drouin.

Bolts move on to face the Caps or Penguins (and do so missing two key players) and get to the Eastern Conference finals for the second year in a row. I might even try to go to a game! And they said hockey in Florida would be a joke...who is laughing now?

Only two pages on this thread...back on the old board there would be 4 pages for the hockey season...

1 of those pages would probably been some guy from Buffalo chatting about their top rookie not being a ROY finalist.

meh...i don't care about ROY...I will settle for a decent place in the standings for now..
but...the Sabres went from an abysmal team last season..to a team that was exciting to watch by the end of this season..
so..hopefully it all stays together next season!!!

Blueshirts still stuck with Girardi and Staal. Any takers?..Maybe Flyers??..Apparently they will be all in for Stammer..Unless the blue line issues are solved, nothing they do will matter.

I never commented on the Sharks Stanley run because I thought I'd jinx it. First of all, respect to the PENS. They were the better team and deserve to be champs. Anyways, it was exciting seeing the Sharks go past LA, NASH & STL. Obviously the Stanley Cup Playoffs is very exciting to behold and even more so when your team is making a run. I couldn't believe my team finally made the finals, but it became a quick after thought when the PENS ferocious defense shut down the Sharks. I hate using the saying, I'm happy my team just made it, because I want my team to finally raise the cup and end this nightmare drought, but since it's the first time, I'm happy and proud of my team.

Apparently, the Flyers had a good draft and took a lot of forwards and another top notch goalie. They are hoarding goalies like MLB teams do minor league pitchers.
