Oh, it was just "Throb Throb" repress that came out several years ago. Nothing special.

I found a German Pressing of Minor Threat''s Out of Step 12".
Never seen this before. Or heard about it. Back in 1984 I bought the UK pressing (red stripe) and those where the only ones available here in Berlin Germany. Later US repressings (without stripe) were also available.

The great thing about this German pressing is that backside song and recording info is translated into German.

I bought it, of course.

+ Offenders I hate myself 7"
+ The Police Outlandos d'Amour 12" album
Listening to Punk today is like listening to Glenn Miller in 1982.

Not a purchase, but I did finally get a copy of Psychocandy on vinyl as a Father's Day present a few weeks ago. It's the 2017 Rhino pressing that duplicates the original U.S. Reprise pressing and it sounds great.

In Boston recently, I was dismayed by how awful a store Newberry Comics has become. 75% Funko dolls and shitty t-shirts. The rest is way overpriced vinyl reissues. I scoured the clearance rack and found a Liam Hayes/Plush record marked down from $31 to $9. So...yay for me, I guess?

Bummer. That used to be a pretty great store. Plan 9 in Richmond has also become a shadow of its former self. I hate to say it, but sometimes I think it would be better if places just closed before turning to complete shit. Going to Yesterday & Today in the early ‘00s was depressing compared to what it had been in the mid ‘80s.

Not a record, but got today the book "Crossover The Edge" by Alex Anesiadis
https://www.cherryred.co.uk/product/alexandros-anesiadis-crossover-the-edge-where-hardcore-punk-and-metal-collide-book/
Looks like an indeep, almost complete, essay on the crossover scene in the 80s.
Suggested to everyone like me into this kind of melting pot
"Punker": Damnit, your english is confusing!
"Version Sound": Damnit, your english is amazing!
"Cischord": Damnit, my English is confusing!

I haven't been to Vinyl Conflict, but I hear great things about it. I've met Bobby (the guy who runs it) at a record fair in Asbury ParkN and he may have bought something from me, but I can't remember. So if anyone is in Richmond this w/e for Avail, stop in there.

My point is that places come and go and thankfully there are new ones sometimes to take the place of old favorites.

I've been on a vinyl kick as of late. I find it very pleasant to put a record on Saturday or Sunday morning, sit back on the couch with the cover and just...sit and listen. I haven't done that in a long time.

Recent Purchases include:
Mikey Erg's Waxbuilt Castles
The Lemon Twig's Go to School
Matthew Sweet's Kimi ga Suki* Raifu
Jesse Winchester's Third Down, 110 to Go
Brian Auger's Oblivion Express' Second Wind
A comp of '90s bands doing Troggs covers (Groin Thunder!)
A comp from '89 of Aussie bands doing Stooges covers (Hard to Beat)

I am ashamed to admit that I get about 1 physical release a day in my mailbox and I probably buy two digital releases a day and maybe borrow from the internet about 5 digital releases a day. Most of which I never get around to listening to. Life was so much easier as a teenager when you may have bought one album every week or so and another friend did the same. Then you listened to that same album or friends album for weeks.

I think I gave Sal my copy of the Rule of Thumb since he played on it and didn't have a copy. I though I had that Emmapeel single too. Maybe I gave it to Stabb years ago.

The Emmapeel single is really good....sounds to me like something that could have been on Crash.

The Rule of Thumb single is good too....didn't even know it existed until about a month ago.

I'm a big fan of Telenko's voice....great stuff on the early Sleeper records. I've never heard the Rule of Thumb 12"...but what's the story with Smalley singing on the 7"?

We got to know Dave during those first couple ALL tours. When we booked time at Inner Ear it was TJ's idea to ask him to sing.
JT is one of my favorite singers. If you haven't heard the Amber Jets record "Swimming Lake Superior" please check it out. I think it's as good as anything Sleeper/Serpico ever did.

Those Coltrane albums may have the nicest packaging that I have ever seen - very thick cardboard and glossed gatefold album cover. I listened to the A side of A Love Supreme and it sounded great. I will have to check out the Hoffman site to see if anyone over there is impressed.

I would question what masters they used. IIRC, the Love Supreme OG masters went up in flames in the Universal fire.

I read something on the Hoffman forum from 3 years ago that said there was never a recording made with the original tapes. So, who the fuck knows.

It sure looks great and it sounded very good for someone who never sat down to listen to it before. I love those types of recordings with a lot of instrument separation.

If I’m reading correctly, the masters were thrown out in the ‘70s, so earlier pressings (presumably) did come from the original master.

Not quite. The original master tape of ALS was stored at Bell Sound, IIRC, and that go tossed when they closed and MCA was going through consolidation, many years before the fire. There was a safety copy (a 1:1 copy of the original) sent to the UK BITD, which still exists. This was unearthed a few years ago. That would be the closest thing to the original master tape. I haven't heard this latest reissue so I can't comment on the sound.
