Good choice. I haven't listened to them in a long while, but I was a huge fan circa 1990/1991. Side 2 of Ritual de lo Habitual is amazing, but as far as favorite song goes, it might just have to be "Summertime Rolls" or maybe "Stop" for sentimental reasons.

I always dug "Stop" just cause it's such a great opener...but really you can't go wrong w/ anything from Ritual.

This band, along with Pearl Jam, is responsible for beginning my slow decline into not caring about new music. I walked out on their show at the old 9:30 Club. Dreadful stuff.

quite a hard one, being a huge JA fan in 90s and still loving their first three albums... what to say, umh...
today, I will go with Ocean Size, but Summertime Rolls is just a inch behind...

When Ritual de lo Habitual came out, I definitely thought Nothing's Shocking was the better album (I got both around the same time), but now I think Ritual de lo Habitual has aged a bit better and side 2 of it is their best work.

I am sentimental about "Stop" because a band I used to go see in high school (they were comprised mainly of HS classmates/friends of mine who were all a year ahead of me) used to put on basement shows in their house (well the house the two twins who were in the band lived in) and always covered that song along with the Liveage! version of "Hope" as they were all huge Descendents/ALL fans. One of the guys in that band gave me his s/t Bad Brains cassette and also turned me on to Shudder to Think though it might've been a different member of said band.

Ew it makes me sick to my stomach because my poor little cat, Nicky has gone missing - but I always loved the song "Pets," 'cause it's so true oh I guess that was Porno For Pyros. Sorry I guess I don't give a sh** about Jane's Addiction (no meaness meant to people who liked that band) Just in a bad fuckin mood. I want my cat back.

"Jane Says" is the one that sticks in my mind. Is that the song with the video with someone shoplifting a chicken or turkey?

Aw thank you! Do you have any ideas/tactics? This has never happened to me in my life of having kitties! It's horrible. I texted JGJR last night about it, that people were working here (putting in stupid superfluous sprinkler system) and left a window AND screen open and she got out. Luckily my Jives didn't jump out too so he's safe, but it's been since Monday. I've been on the lookout at night around 11:30-2:30 and I saw her on Tues 2am! but she ran away. Now it's been forever and it's horrible. I pampered that (7-year-old) baby like crazy. I don't know how she'll survive. And now it's getting cold at night. And she loves the heat - always moving around the house to lie right where the sun is.

Oh VS - she's the one (I don't know if you remember) that you put a caption on one of my photos (Heil kittler!) Cause she was stretching with one arm out. That's what she does. She was such a happy cat. But scared. This is why it's so hard - most cats would come back but she is the definition of "Scaredy cat" (Sp?) Any time anyone comes over she'd run and hide under the kitchen sink in the cabinet! Even Matt only saw her once. So that time, Tues morning, when I called for her she ran. But I guess it's true what people told me I did all I could do and it's up to her to find her way back. I'm just heartbroken I hate it. Going to US Open tomorrow but I know I won't have total fun cos this will be in my head, just as Thurs. Zero Boys. It's like when do you say, okay, and give up? I don't want to but I don't know what to do...

Sorry for the rant.

sorry bout your cat. i would put up fliers with a couple of good color pictures on them and your phone number in clear letters. if the cat was was microchipped, check you local shelters (which would be a good idea either way). an escaped animal is scared, but will usually tend to be close to home. best bet is to look from midnight to 5 or 6am, as that is when they are most active and likely to be roaming around. my friend found her cat after 2 months so there is always hope. good luck.

hope your cat will return asap, my dog disappeared twice and everytime it was a "heart" affair (to call it in a polite way), maybe is the same with your cat ;)
coming back to JA, they were among my fave bands for a long period in 90s, when Ritual came out I was not so excited about side A, but immediatley loved side B. Still I prefer Nothing's shocking as a Whole album.

I will say that Dave Navarro post-1990 or so makes it very hard to be a fan.

As ridiculous as Dave is, Perry is ten times more ridiculous. They are silly people, but they made good music, even Strays.

How does one cover a live version of a song?

I should explain that. The singer would start off the song by going "song called Hope" just like on Liveage! That part obviously isn't on the MGTC version of the song, but otherwise they're the same except for the "it's big and long" part after "and now you wait for his cock, it'll turn you on." I can't remember if Adam (the singer of the band in question that covered it) sang that line or not (I don't think so, though), but anyway the point of this is that I really like Milo's ad-libs on Liveage!

Strays is not good despite what VS says, but maybe JA were a time/place band for me and I just don't wanna hear a modern record by them and had it come out in '91 or something, I'd have been into it? I haven't heard their most recent album, but some seemed to like it.

I agree with you about Navarro, too.

No that was "Been Caught Stealing." "Jane Says" was on Nothing's Shocking and then they put out that horrid live version that got played to death in '97 on Kettle Whistle. The album version is amazing, though.

Jane's is clearly a time and place band for you, because that record basically sounds exactly like what their next record would have sounded like. I avoided it for years on the assumption that it must be terrible, but it sounds exactly like Jane's Addiction. I can't think of another reuinion record that sounds as much like the band picked up exactly where they left off.

Probably "Summertime Rolls" for me or maybe "Ocean Size". Really that whole Nothing's Shocking album is pretty amazing. The one after it, not as much but still full of excellent songs. The first album was actually kinda boring to me but it was OK.

Yeah they're a rare case where the major label is much better than the indie album(s), but they are a weird case because (like the MC5) their debut Lp was a live one. I enjoy it, but yeah NS and RDLH are much, much better.
