I just got a ticket to see the LEMON TWIGS at Joe's Pub on 7/29. While neither of their albums is perfect by any stretch of the imagination, I admit that they fascinate me. And at least 50% of their stuff is top-notch power pop ala Todd Rundgren and Big Star.

Considering seeing The Wedding Present and then Mark Gardener next month. It'll probably just be one or nothing. Mark Gardener appeals more to me so leaning more towards catching him.

Adolescents just anounced for a gig here next week in a place that holds about 60 people.

Should I expect much? I've never seen them, who even is in the band at this stage?

They still have the lead singer and I expect they would be good to see even without Soto, but I have not seen them in about 10 years. They were great then.

Skipped OFF!...was too tired Skipped Fury...was too tired Bad Religion sold out & we were thinking about going tonite in BK but decided to get tix for ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD instead....

Kurt Vile/Dinosaur Jr. -in Central Park last week.....I gotta say Kurt just bores me a bit. Some really good songs but some just blah...Dino Jr was great doing a 50 min. set of hits.

The Mountain Goats- Union Transfer Philly grabbed last minute tix while we were in Philly and had a great time I know just one or two MG albums but they were excellent live Erin Mckeown opened, I never heard of her but she was very good.

Peter Murphy last night - Le Poisson Rouge

Guida- 9/5 BK Bazaar

Oh Sees- 10/19 Warsaw- BK

Agnostic Front/Prong- House of Independents, Asbury Park 10/5 AF 35th anniversary. show.

Missed Primordial last time they played here. Alan's (singer) other band Dread Sovereign are playing here in December though. Should get to it.

I have a ticket for MC50 at Le Poisson Rouge at the end of the month. Then there's RIOT FEST in September and I'm going to see WILCO (somewhat against my better judgement) at Brooklyn Steel in October.

Im def not as big a WILCO fan as you but I would be excited to see them at BK Steel. They lost me when they named an album Wilco-Schmilco. Sorry

I can't say I've liked more than a handful of songs on each record since A Ghost is Born. But I keep trying and Brooklyn Steel will be an interesting venue to see them play. It's prolly been a decade or so since I've seen them live.

They pretty much lost me after Sky Blue Sky. Subsequent stuff is all good but not great and not very memorable with the exception of some stuff on The Whole Love. I'm sure they're still a great live band, though. They were excellent each time I've seen them, first in 2000 (that show was incredible; I think they still had Jay Bennett then), 2003 and then in 2008.

I went to see the freakin' LORDS OF 52ND STREET in the park nearest my house last night. It's the core of Billy Joel's classic band ('76 to '86) - the key being drummer Liberty DeVitto who is still a monster player at 69 (nice!).
I know my soft spot for for Mr. Joel is unjustifiable, but I really do love those songs. And I got them all to sign the inner sleeve of my copy of 'Glass Houses'. A wonderful night.

Stop the guilt. The Stranger is a flat-out masterpiece despite a few of the songs being overplayed on radio and Turnstiles is a very good album, too; there are great moments on all of the other ones from that exact time period, too. I would've been happy seeing that.

Oh and I saw Interpol and some guy who used to sing for a band The Smiths last weekend in Forest Hills because I got $5 tickets. No racism, a Ramones shout-out when he first got on stage, lots of cool covers, my favorite song in his solo catalog ("Seasick, Yet Still Docked") and a few Smiths numbers = no complaints from me despite the lime green jumpsuit that admittedly only someone like him could even try to get away with.

Interpol were great, too. I hadn't seen them since 2003! Nice mix of new stuff and classics from the first 3 albums. Plus, I love seeing shows there; my favorite big fan aside from maybe the Mann in Philly.

I've had quite a run this past week. I just got back from seeing Jeff Caudill of Gameface and Popeye from Farside play an in-store at Limited to One with Ryley Walker opening the show. All acoustic, combination of their own songs with covers of Black Sabbath, Tom Petty, Dramarama, Jawbreaker, etc. So much fun! Last Saturday, I saw Billy Bragg play his "middle period" albums Workers Playtime, Don't Try This at Home and William Bloke. I got there late and missed the first half hour or so, but walked in as he was playing "Must I Paint a Picture." It was fantastic, as he always is, particularly with minimal or in this case no accompaniment but himself on guitar. He's an absolute treasure. And speaking of treasures, a few nights before, I saw Brian Wilson and his excellent band play basically a dream set for Beach Boys nerds like myself as they highlighted Friends and Surf's Up, including a lot of stuff I'd never heard them play live before. Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin was with them. Brian should be home as he can't sing anymore and is basically a prop, but the songs and his band were great. The Zombies opened and 4/5 of their original lineup played Odessey and Oracle. I saw the same lineup do the same album back in 2015 and it's probably an all-time top 20 or whatever show for me and this one was almost as special. Like that other show, they started out with the modern version (which sucks by comparison; they sound like a shitty AOR or bar band) playing some earlier hits and new stuff.

I saw Rhys Chatham play a free outdoor show in downtown Brooklyn earlier today. He played a flute that he put together in a few pieces and it was processed and plugged in through something or other and the end result sounded like early '70s Eno/Fripp compositions (think No Pussyfooting, Evening Star, etc.). I liked it a lot, but it was hard to really concentrate on it since so many folks were talking around me. It was a free outdoor show and part of an arts festival, so it kind of comes with the territory, but anyway I'm glad I've gotten to see him perform.
