Here are some records where I feel the b-side is superior to the A-Side (Not that I don't like these A-Sides)

Nevermind
I Don't Want To Grow Up

are two that come immediately to mind.

Actually, I will vote for Milo too. Love the a-side but on the b-side (especially the last 3 tracks) you really can't eff with that!

Agreed on both, especially the latter, though "Drain You" was always my favorite song on Nevermind. Or are we talking about 7" singles here?

Drain You is the second song on side b :)

I know; sorry if I wasn't clear; I meant that I have always thought of IDWGU as one of those albums (unlike Nevermind) that had MORE of a separation between the material on the A-side (punky) and B-side (power pop). What I should've said is that "Can't Go Back" is my favorite song on IDWGU, but I prefer side B.

But in the case of Nevermind, the sound is (at least to my ears) pretty consistent throughout with an obvious exception like "Something in the Way." Side B is heavier and also less hit-heavy, though, so for that reason I'd be more likely to jam it. I just contradicted myself. Carry on. I've just never thought about Nevermind in that context before; maybe just because of having it on CD but friends had it on tape and I still remember flipping it over to get the intro to "Territorial Pissings." I love that Youngbloods parody.

My favorite b-side is the Beatles -Rain - but not because it was 'so much better'

The Smiths 'how soon is now' was originally the b-side to 'william, it was really nothing'...and is infinitely better.

The ants 'beat my guest' was also considerably better than prince charming.

Always like the jam's 'carnaby street' more than all around the world (but both are great)

But the best is White Man in the Hammersmith Palais (over i fought the law)

That's the US version, but "White Man" was originally released in the UK & Europe as an A-side. With "The Prisoner" as the B-side. "I Fought the Law" was originally on The Cost of Living EP. which was released in the UK & Europe a few weeks before the US single you mention. I'm not sure that should count.

But while we are on the Clash subject, I'd take their cover of "Pressure Drop" over it's A-side, "English Civil War".

Cam we all agree that Super Black Market Clash is one of the most essential CD compilation ever?

99% of b-side/12" remix/outtake comps are as useful as a third nipple, but that Clash one is the exception to the rule.

I used to have the 10" version of that record. For what is is worth, I just boxed up my Singles Box Set of the Clash in the last box of punk rock records to get boxed up prior to our move.

flex your head. The A side had all the big name bands, but the b-side had the real treasures...

Agreed; "I've Heard It Before" and "American Waste" are better songs than the A-side, though I love it, too.

So much this not for the Johnny Cash cover (which is fun), but for "Can't Say." I still can't comprehend that they left it off of Percolator as it's way better than most of that record.

Nah, just responding to each individual post as I see them. That's probably how my post count got so high to begin with, though! :D

The Freeze's "I Hate Tourists" is far more memorable than whatever the A-side was. I honestly don't remember its title without looking it up.

I love "Don't Forget Me, Tommy." It's like a "Leader of the Pack"- style doomed teenage romance song with copious amounts of New Wave synth.
