can even forgive her for falling for that douchestar, Glen Frey. And love her versions of any Eagle songs but hate the Eagles.
Power-popping Ronstadt! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-Evqdf5p7k

My older brother had her album "Hasten down the Wind" with Blue Bayou, Desperado, and That'll be the Day. I listened to it a lot. She did get some overplay on Flaccid Rock stations but one of the few I liked. Stuff like "Mad Love" didn't get as much so was pleased to just plop on my cheap Montgomery Wards turntable. Eagles made me wanna wrectch pretty quickly.

Really :?: Sheena may be easy on the eyes but Linda can belt it out harder than most Punk ladies, sing like an Angel, and was one Stone Cold Fox. :o

Listen to this "MAD LOVE" tour concert & see if you're not blown away by her Costello/Edmunds, etc. renditions :!:  Find Easton a bit too 80's disco-pop friendly + she's got no twang in her act. Jones is a strong vocalist but not into her. Not a reggae fan unless it's done with some real grit like Clash, SLF, Ruts, etc. Wendy-O :?: I liked Plasmatics till I saw how much of a PUNK ROCK KISS in concert. I give her credit for being a tough frontperson but the band really sucked.

Back to Linda. You might not dig the twangy Country songs about "weed, and drinking" but dig the 80's power-pop/New Wave tunes.

This fuckin tune...

Her imitation of Deborah Harry is spot on.

I live in Tucson and she and her family are deeply drilled into this landscape.
You can't go 5 blocks without a "Ronstadt" something. Building. Lawyer firm.
Bus Depot.

Their history is OLD too...Spanish land grant old.

Mad Love was a serious gateway New Wave record for me when I was 12. And that concert video Stabby linked to...man, she made this little boy feel all funny inside. I remember watching it on HBO over and over again.

Tango, you trying to insinuate there be some serious Nepotism in getting Linda famous :?: Had no idea there was so much Ronstadt-'n going on in Tuscon.

scanny, most of us teen males felt that way-

There is a direct line between Linda Ronstadt & Black Sabbath.

Can you trace the line?

No implications intended Stabby...more that The Ronstadts are omnipresent
in the Tucson landscape. And for a huge amount of time. She got big just like
the some of that family did in their own ways. Having a killer voice and a Mike Nesmith
gem helps.

Oh, wasn't getting sensitive if there was nepotism because so many in the entertainment world have some. I found Linda talented but say for example the Strokes - I don't think many here would argue that they had their careers bought by very wealthy parents, right :?: And they certainly don't have the talent that someone like Ronstadt had.

Yes and yes, especially the GJ albums Nightclubbing and Warm Leatherette and the 1st 2 Plasmatics records (particularly Beyond the Valley of 1984).

I LOVE LOVE Linda's voice.

Her family history is stuffed full of musicians and huge family gatherings where music was played until sunrise...
so her talents there are very genetic. Her helping give birth to the Eagles is a huge black mark on her resume
that is rectified partially with her traditional music recordings from the 80's and 90's.

I also like that she is a lifelong vegetarian ( like wendy o!) and a super shy introvert
who had to push herself constantly to create and perform. Like alot of my peers.

Waiting on the Dolly Parton thread.

Just as a preview...shes a god.

P.S.....Stabby....I listened to the first Strokes 7" after I watched them play to 30
people at Greens in Stamford CT. I gave em a chance.

That record got two plays and I sold it.

I have avoided them ever since.

It is a huge blemish on her ass that she helped the Eagles do anything but easy to forgive the lady. Shy & introverted :?: Interesting.....

And the Strokes continue to SUCK. ;)

On the plus side, she made a lot of money for Warren Zevon by covering several of his songs.

I hardly ever play them, but I can dig the 1st 2 Strokes Lp. Everything I've heard after that, though, is really bad and I didn't like their live show at all, either.

Same for Costello re: her cover of "Alison." By the time she covered 3 of his songs on Mad Love, my guess is that he needed it less but I'm sure he appreciated it either way.

The South Africa thing is pretty crap....not like the info
wasn't out there and most of her peers decided against it.
