The Last - "Danger"

Los Angeles, CA power-pop progenitors The Last will be returning with a new album titled Danger! this fall for End Sounds. Of note is the band's new lineup, which includes Descendents / ALL rhythm section Karl Alvarez and Bill Stevenson on bass and drums, respectively, along with brothers and original members Joe and Mike Nolte.
The Last originally formed in 1976, and issued their debut L.A. Explosion! in 1979 via Bomp!. They went on to release most of their other material via SST Records, including their most recent full-length, 1996's Gin & Innuendoes. They'll also be performing at The Fest 12 on Nov. 3.

Always wanted to hear this band because...well, pretty obvious.
I never knew where to start. I heard a song on Youtube from one of the SST albums and really enjoyed. Looking forward to checking this out.

Pretty much this except that of their albums I only have heard
L.A. Explosion and only own the "She Don't Know Why I'm Here" 7".

The new album is really, really good. I had the short chance to listen to it in the car of friend in LA.
I had an erection for 2 days afterwards. Great harmonies and songwriting and an incredible tight rhythm section. you'll love it.

I like the Last a lot. "Gin and Innuendoes" is probably my favorite album. I'm not wild about the new track but I look forward to hearing the rest of the album.

Never understood Bill Stevenson's obsession with this band.
Dave Naz played on a record I believe. Too clean Brit sounding pop for me.

Still not sure I'm sold on the new, punkier Last. I prefer stuff like "Every Summer Day" and "You Won't Win." The new songs may grow on me, though.

Probably not enough demand for a preorder. I was surprised by the more agressive sound of the other new song. Judging by xxxHunterxxx post above I'm assuming this one is also a bit punkier, which is fine but man I am loving the poppy side of the albums I've heard (L.A. Explosion and Confession) a lot.

I'm with Hunter at this point. That song sounded kind of like Rancid, which is OK, but I prefer the above songs, too, or the album version of "She Don't Know Why I'm Here," et al.

Awakening, 1989. I remember being completely stoked when I saw it at the record store, and being completely underwhelmed after listening to it.
But yeah, I never understood all the hype about this band either.

No worries! It's $17 on vinyl from them and $12 in the other link, plus the red vinyl (and white) is limited to 100 each. Not that I care about collecting but still....

Also, the only albums it turns out I need to hear at this point are "Awakening" and "Gin and Innuendos" if anyone can help out. Like I said, they're long out of print, not even on iTunes, etc. Thanks??
