Its been argued, but I'm gonna stick with Exile on Main Street.

I saw the Tattoo You tour and that was a great album too.

yeah i vote for sticky fingers and let it bleed. i always said stones were a great singles but not so great lp band though. exile would be a lot more solid if it was one lp, but everyone had to do the double lp thing in the bloated 70s.

Great Stones records:
Between the Buttons
Beggars Banquet
Let It Bleed
Sticky Fingers
Exile on Main Street
Some Girls

That's a lot of great records for any band.

Honorable mentions:
Aftermath
Tattoo You
Dirty Work
A Bigger Bang

Goats Head Soup and It's Only Rock and Roll are good too.

Other than "Shattered", Some Girls never really thrilled me.

Not really a fan of Exile.

For me, the best "album" isn't really an album per se, it's the 3xCD London Years singles collection.

Other than that, I really the UK version of Between the Buttons.

Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers, Aftermath, and Satanic Majesties are good too. Referring to UK versions as well.

I mainly like the Mick Taylor era. All those records are good, some great.

As for the Brian Jones era, it's all decent, but I could get by with only Hot Rocks in a pinch.

There's some good Ron Wood stuff, but I'd rather listen to Faces.

I agree with this. I would just say Hot Rocks Vol. 1 but that missed some great UK singles. Of the proper albums, Beggars Banquet is my favorite. I prefer the Brian Jones era in general, but of course some of the Mick Taylor/Jimmy Miller era is really great, too.

Beggar's Banquet, Let It Bleed, and the London Singles Collections that Patient OT mentioned are really all the Stones I ever listen to, and I have everything they released up to 1975, in both US and UK versions where appropriate.

Stick Fingers would be overall fave, but Stones were always more of a song band than an album band

fave Stones songs:

Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)
Can't You Hear Me Knocking?
Monkey Man
Gimme Shelter
Soul Survivor
Rocks Off
Midnight Rambler (Live)
All Down The Line
Tumbling Dice
Street Fighting Man
Bitch
Live With Me
Sympathy for the Devil
Jumping Jack Flash
Paint It Black
Under My Thumb
Brown Sugar
I Am Waiting
Happy

never made a perfect LP but had so damn many perfect songs

Pretty much everything with Brian Jones in the 60's (Satanic Majesties continues to destroy Sgt Poopers as a concept album w/ great songs), a few things w/o Jones in the 70's and even dig Shattered but that's as far as I Stone :!: After that they became THE STROLLING BONES:mrgreen:

The snare sound is pretty ridiculous, but I think it has more good-to-great songs than yer average post-'70s Stones record.

I need to go back and re-visit my collection. I did like "Exile," back then, but when i last played the album on my iPod, it didn't age well. I know it might have been polished, but "Steel Wheels" was a great album to me. I wouldn't say it's their best, but a good listen. If I had to go by songs since Stormy posted,

(non order)
Play With Fire
Gimmie Shelter
Paint It Black
Time Is On My Side
Under My Thumb

I have to respectfully disagree, wretch. I think Exile is timeless and it sounds WAY better on vinyl. Steel Wheels is one that was hyped a lot at the time of its release, partially since it also coincided with a big tour, but I don't think its songs have aged well at all.

I love all of the songs you listed, though.
