Refused

Refused

Postby 77clash » Sat Nov 29, 2014 7:57 pm

The band is playing festivals this Summer, including Punk Rock Bowling, and apparently writing new material for a new CD in 2015. Anyone here like these guys?

I just listened to two CDs and only liked one song. I can do without them. To me they sound like a cross between the Beastie Boys, Fugazi, Nine Inch Nails, and Radiohead.

I guess maybe they were the Shape of Punk to Come as their CD was named. That is probably why I quit listening to new bands on Epitaph.

Watcha think of em?

I heard Shape of Punk to Come and didn't think much of it. I respect them for bringing something different to the table. Fugazi meets Radiohead meets NIN sounds about right. I hear Sick of it All in there too. But that combination just doesn't resonate with me. It's a little too metallic for my taste. I generally like my hardcore with more punk n roll in it. They played Coachella and Lollapalooza so I guess their reunion was a big deal. And now they're playing Punk Rock Bowling. Don't care for them either way.

….I will say this, when they played FYF a few years back (or maybe last year?) they were spectacular. Listening to them at home is nothing like seeing them live. Live I "get" them.

def overrated. i guess they were political in their heyday and some people complained about them reuniting and cashing in but everyone else did, so fuck it.

I didn't mind the early stuff, which is more straight up hardcore, like their songs on the Straight Edge As Fuck comps. I don't hate The Shape Of, but it was so overplayed when it came out that I don't think I could listen to it ever again. A lot of people love this band, so I can see how they are playing all the big fests.

I´m not into their reunions. Maybe they are not cashing in but concerning the politics that band carried in the 90´s, it seems like these reunions are kind of rock star bullshit, unless they are donating money for some good cause.

As for their music, I like some stuff, I like to listen from time to time Shape Of Punk To Come but I think that their best record is their second album - Songs To Fan The Flames Of Discontent, check out that record, it is really great stuff.

I saw The (International) Noise Conspiracy open for RFTC a couple of times and thought they were excellent live, but their albums never did much of anything for me.
