any thoughts on this song coming out in 1988 and and having an effect on the sounds we recognize from that era? reminds me of Jehu.

Not sure if Jehu were fans, but I wouldn't be surprised. I know they were big Sonic Youth fans and given how similar sonically that era of MBV was to Sonic Youth, I think you might just be hearing a shared influence.

I think MBV had a more direct influence on U.S. shoegaze kind of emo/indie stuff like All Natural Lemon and Lime Flavors, et al.
