Thanks so much for sharing! I’ve been looking for that Dag set with Smalley on vocals.

To my surprise...this is a demo tape, not the 7". I had no idea it even existed. Cool listen. Thanks for the up. Funny that the only song from the demo that made it to the 7" was I Can.

 I've never seen this footage of GI :!: Funny, with my crew cut & tight outfit - spazzing out like Ian Curtis. Totally f'ed up on "They Know" while band carried on. If only they had footage of lil' Evan Dando w/ Leamonheads, too. Who's got this footage :?: Like to use it for G.I. doc.

The GI video is fantastic. Always regretted that I never got to see them live, particularly during that era (You/Crash). I've always thought that lineup put them in the top tier of late 80s punk, right up there with Dag & Dents/ALL.

SO this! I was too young to drive yet when GI played a gymnasium in Lincoln Nebraska on the Crash tour. Major regret. My friends who did attend said Stabb was running around with a pair of shoes tied around his waist? Also a reportedly amazing set.

Some one at Pitchfork must be checking in here:

http://pitchfork.com/thepitch/563-dc-85 ... d-dc-punk/

And I got to see GI with Dag at the Lismar Lounge in NYC and it was one of the best shows I've seen (not sure if it was the You or Crash tour). And the reunion show with J and Pete and Tom and Stabby was fuggin' excellent.

I was too young to see them in the '80s, but I was also at the 2010 reunion with the aforementioned lineup and it was indeed all kinds of awesome.

The guy who wrote that Pitchfork piece started the Now Playing FB group (which I am a member of along with some other folks on here) and he lives in DC, so actually you might be onto something.

According to the Pitchfork article the Lemonheads footage will be going up too.

I'm practically blushing over here, you guys. Stop. ;) I really appreciate the nice things, and your valued memories of GI, jaybird, gregpolard, JGJR & all.

MJH, that gig was a little upsetting for me. Pissed me, GI & our sound man Robert Bowers off that the little brats in NOFX wouldn't be bothered (during their game of basketball) out of our way just a bit as we brought in our huge P.A., mixing board and gear. Next when Ignition played some asshole was starting fights so Alec tried to reason with him using some of that MacKaye wisdom. We went on after them and I decided to wear this old beaten up pair of shoes around my neck telling the crowd "If anyone wants to fight, they'll have to fight my shoes!" It was a weird thing to say/do but I'd had more than enough of seeing stupid Nazi Skin violence on GI tours and wanted to make some kind of point.

scanny, the lismar lounge was the closest thing for me to being Cool Hand Luke "put in the box". And it was our big CMJ show with Dag Nasty and a group called Blitzpeer who were known to play backing up their girlfriend's band, Cycle Sluts from Hell. What a miserable hole that was. We made the best of it and had a great time. Afterwards I felt really nauseas and sat on the side of the road trying to throw up. I think it was just the lack of air in the place. Oh, despite our having a great time, we'd hoped we got noticed for playing a College Music Festival (like it would help us on our way-ha!). Village Voice wrote a rave review on Dags but never even mentioned we played. I think it was because we flipped a coin with Dags earlier to see who'd play last and they lost so we played right before them. The writer probably came later and never did his research to see GI was on the bill.

Cycle Sluts from Hell "I Wish You Were a Beer" is a great tune.

I always thought that the name Cycle Sluts from Hell was funny and one of the many fake/funny band names I've come up with over the years is called Cider Sluts from Hell given my love of apple cider when it's in season, but I digress), but I have never knowingly heard a note of their music and just assumed it would be awful. Maybe I'm wrong, though. I wonder who the band was that backed them and who the writer was. What a pud, though at least he had the good taste to like Dag Nasty.

They are a silly joke, really. Blitzpeer were the group who backed them up (in studio + live) and man did they have some horrible lyrics "The devil's battalions/ride in on the stallions ..." That's all that really stood out in my memory. That Voice writer should be de-balled for not giving GI a mention.

They put up some more bands that played shows with GI, but no more GI shows yet. 23 shows in total so far. This is great. I am adding to my punk rock video library now.
