Great list of tunes; Blondie tune is a Buddy Holly cover (and it rules).

I don't know if you just made that up, but that title is awesome. And FOD's "Guimo's Theme" (the only song I ever liked by them) is a great love song, too.

I didn't make that up, it's a real song. Many of their songs are actually love songs or songs about relationships but you'd never know it from the song titles. I loved their creative and lengthy song titles. I miss that band, they were really getting great in their last couple of years then they split up.

"Guimo's Theme"!!! My favorite FOD tune!

It's about heroin just like the much later "Golden Brown" by the Stranglers (another song some think of as a love song). Great, great tune, though!

I only know Walking Shadows, so the song title didn't immediately stand out. Upon closer examination of the lyrics you posted, it sounds like a cover of the Allen Toussaint song from the '60s that lots of folks (including, recently, Robert Plant) have done.

Indeed it is. Awesome (and great version, too)! I really have to get more stuff by this band. I like this way better than Robert Plant's rather tepid (but OK) version.

JGJR, I'm told that Plastic B never actually sang the song as he was the New Wave french equivalent of Milli Vanilli getting someone else to do his vocals. What have others heard :?:

Great choice, but heck Jawbreaker's entire discography is loaded with great love songs. That's one of the absolute best, though. "Want," "P.S. New York is Burning," "Do You Still Hate Me?" "Sluttering (May 4th)" and others surely qualify, too, no?

Yes most definitely re: "Kiss the Bottle" and such a durable one that the band Upset recently wrote a song that quoted it verbatim in its opening line.

I know you're not a fan of Dear You, but you're also gonna dismiss my suggestion of "Do You Still Hate Me?"

One of the weaker songs on "24 Hour" with a vocal melody stolen from Green Day for the verses.

I love that one, but I never noticed the similarity. I'll have to play them back to back. Even if I hear it, I don't mind stuff like that and think it's cool as long as it's not too obvious and I like both songs anyway. And no one would confuse Billie Joe's voice with Blake's anyway.
