Mix tapes and CDs

Mix tapes and CDs

Postby The Snake » Fri Nov 07, 2014 6:09 am

Anyone into making mix tapes or CDs?
This is one of my favorite things to do for years.
All my closest friends have bunch of mix tapes (and some CDs) I did for them.
I am specially into making love mix tapes, ha, ha, you just cannot miss with good pop punk and power pop love songs for a mix tape.
Any thoughts?

Didn't call them 'mix tapes' in the UK, and by the time everyone did, it was by people too young to realise how shit tapes are quality wise.

Good stuff. Yeah, It's a bit like how everyone everywhere says they're going to see a 'show' these days, and I'm like; "you're going to the theatre?"

I dunno, I have always called them "shows". That's not a new thing. "Are you going to that show at CB's on Saturday?" "That was the best Sonic Youth show I've ever seen." What do you call them?

No offence. Yeah, it is a US thing, same as mix tapes, that was my point, just joking.

Here we also say gigs.
Concert (or koncert in Croatian) sounds like going to opera.

I do both, it depends on a situation because some people don´t have tape players.
But CDs are cool too.

I did it for years starting from high school. I'm glad it's getting easier and easier now. went from making tapes from vinyl, then mixed CD's or greatest hits from my fave bands. Now it's playlists on my iPod. So much easier now dragging songs instead of pulling out 20 albums for one song.

Hell, I still bring tapes and walkman on tours.
Each tour I bring with myself at least 60 tapes. :D

Doesn't everybody just make playlists now?

If I want to share a playlist, I copy all the files and upload to Dropbox. Done.

I haven't made any comp tapes in over 15 years. I still make mix CDs. I also make mix mp3 collections for folks to download and burn their own CD. I use playlist on my synology drive to play music at home sometimes or over the internet.

My friends insist that I make them compilations on tapes or CDs.
I don´t mind, it´s always fun and a pleasure for me to do it.

I used to do a lot of mix tapes back in time, actually I prepare them just for specific occasions.
Last one I did was few years ago for Cvlt Nation:

If you want to check it, it contains also some notes on the band involved and so on...

"Version Sound": Damnit, your english is amazing!
"Cischord": Damnit, my English is confusing!

I loved making mix tapes for good friends or people I loved as a gift of love. I don't have the set-up to make mix CD's but have been given many from friends who enjoy making them as gifts or just turning me on to different stuff. Lewdd, e-dog & krrl were most generous in the past making me killer CD mixes. I have a great punkrocksoulbrotherinellay who sends me a big envelope full of them on b-days + xxxmas. I return the love with flyers, posters and stuff.
