Samhain

Samhain

Postby clash77 » Mon Nov 03, 2014 10:22 pm

I went to this gig in NYC with Janelle.A couple of things..Their "version" of Horror Business" was when the crowd got the most excited..Could it be that the Misfits are Legendary and Samhain are/were shit??..I believe so..Then Glen goes on to thank bands like Slayer, Venom, and the like..Haha.Really ??..First of all, The Misfits are the. Only band that made Glen someone..If he thinks otherwise, he's kidding himself..What does this dick think he has to do with "Metal bands"????..So quick to dismiss the "punk tag"..laughable..Jersey version of Garfield..Suck his own pitiful dick if he could.

Jerry Only should sue him for playing a Misfits song.

Clash77's a little more harsh than I would be of this. But I am the one after all who dragged (!) him to the show  I wanted to see them at least once and I'm happy we got to go, as I've always had a love for the band. I wouldn't go again if they came around but it was cool to see them and this was the 30th anniversary of 'Initium' tour so that was neat. They played it in its entirety then played others as well. The one thing that I was cracking up about, aside from the muscley men in the crowd was all throughout the set there was so much feedback. I was thinking heads were gonna roll for that sound in there. Oh, plus the venue sucks - Best Buy Theatre. It would've been so much cooler even at a place like Irving Plaza but whatever. I don't know if this was the old Nokia Theatre? Where I saw Danzig in 2005 but it had the same set up - going on an escalator and walking through labrinthine halls just to find the stage area. And cinema-like concession stands selling candy and snacks ha. And $7 booze of course. And what's up with the seats in the back? That was whack. All the seats were full and I was like, these people are so tame and docile, looking like they're just here to watch a movie. Weird.

Hey Jaybird, I always say it Samhain. I'm not cool enough to use the proper pronunciation ha

Saw them in '99 when they did that first reunion. It was pretty awesome. Kinda wish I saw this run but, eh.

So how do you sing along to "Soul on Fire" or "November's Fire" correctly?

I would have gone if I didn't have a curling match that night. Love the Samhain records, but their dungeon-y production seem at odds with a place like Best Buy (I've been three times in the past couple of months and even though it's a glossy place, the sound is usually pretty killer).

Never thought I'd read that sentence here on the old Dagboard.

It's actually the second time I've used that sentence!

It usually throws people for a loop.

I have missed a show or two for a curling match, but i have probably missed more games for shows. I am better at watching live music than drawing to the 4 foot.

Same venue (I think). I saw Bauhaus, Belle and Sebastian/New Pornographers and The Pogues there in 2005 and 2006.
