Really? I don't recall Elvis smashing any guitars. They took the typeface, that's it. No one thinks it's a great cover based on the effing typeface. Get real, guys.
A fun way to name your band, choose your album cover art and name your album, with a little bit of randomness, and some help from Wikipedia, Flickr and Quotationspage.
Here are the rules:
1.Go to Wikipedia and hit “random” and the first article you get is the name of your band.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
2. The last four or five words will be the title of your new album.

3.Go to Flickr and click on “Explore the Last Seven Days”. The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

Oh good god. All you had to do is travel one year later.

Sleater-Kinney did a tribute to it on Dig Me Out and I believe a few other bands have as well.
Then you could say many 50s and 60s Blue Note album covers were/are iconic, since the whole style has been copied so many times over.

Original EP version obviously. The Lp version (though I love it) has a shall, we say, less iconic punk cover. It looks like the cover of a new wave album.

actually, yeah, the LP version. the "new wave" look is what stands it apart from the other HC records of the time. love the contrast between the arty cover and the music within.

Yep. It's like saying Dig Me Out wouldn't count because it's similar to The Kink Kontroversy.
Designer Ray Lowry acknowledge the design's inspiration when he said, "It was intended as a genuine homage to the original unknown genius who created Elvis Presley's first rock 'n' roll record."

I have already acknowledged that's it's an homage. However, that has ZERO PERCENT to do with what's actually iconic about it, which is 100% the Pennie Smith photograph. Take off the shitty Evis homage lettering and it's actually improved.
