john stabb wrote:Nice review, e-dog. Sounds like the same set/comments/Pegboy tee that SLF had w/ Dot Dash having to open for (I know you said you liked them, Hunter, but ...) Rancid w/o the hardcore "UK -'77" punk garb. It really should've been the other way around, but Dot Dash blew them away. Funny, I hear you about the "goomba" guys in Spike's joint. A friend of mine claims that "too many punk bands are trying to be NOFX and Rancid these days". I don't like either so if that's true ... YIPES
I had absolutely no issues w/ my 4th SLF gig & hope to catch them next time around. And I'm not one of their fans who liked NOW THEN, I loved it then and now. Great songs. I think fans were bummed on the LP cos Jake wasn't using his "froggy" voice but the guy can do both higher pitched singing & raspy vox if he chooses. Well, that and it's a more power-pop sounding record. "Bits of Kids" is a great song & I'd love to see them bring out more from that under appreciated release. No "Liar's Club" in B'mo but dug hearing "Strummerville" again. I was amazed (from what friends have told me about very few old songs not played in past years gigs) that they played 90% old material. I would've been happy hearing half new/half old. One of the (still) greatest bands to see live.
