Pitchfork Gems

Postby version sound » Tue Sep 16, 2014 7:34 am

Rather than start a new thread to rant when Pitchfork writes something incredibly stupid, I'm starting this one to serve as a repository for all manner of PF idiocy. I envision this as being all direct quotes and no accompanying rants. These things speak for themselves. Sal, you can unfollow this one.

From today's Iron Reagan review:

While their sound places them as political punk in the vein of Wasted Youth...

The entirety of everything Brent DiCrescenzo ever wrote for them.

http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/758 ... sing-tide/

All of the negative reviews they later changed to match how well-regarded an album became later.

http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/16836-i-get-wet/ (yes they acknowledge it and these are from different reviewers, but still...)

Wow, these douchebags: A) Have far too much time on their hands when not whackin' it. B) think for too highly about crap like Sunny Day Real Estate and Andrew WK to actually write that much about them. I mean, if they had a clever sense of humor, it wouldn't be so bad, right :?: and C) get paid to write this asscrap? If so, how can I get a job there :?: At least you could all say "I actually know someone who writes for Pitchfork and glad someone there writes entertaining reviews" ;)

You know how I feel about the Rising Tide. I actually think that was a pretty spot on review, rating and all.

Yep. I know I'm in the minority, but I think it's by far their best work. I could honestly take or leave most of the rest of their stuff.

Pardon my language, but this blows my fucking mind.

I managed to ignore them until The Rising Tide. Why? I'm not sure, but that's the only one I ever get really into though I like some songs on the album prior to it. I think Diary is good, too, but I never listen to it.

"The Rising Tide" is a horrible, shitty LP, by the way.

So says most of their fanbase (or seems to anyway) but again it's the only thing I really listen to by them. It's not that far off from the kind of stuff you dug before you got into hardcore (Big Country, et al. but proggier).
