ALL putting out a live CD after 2 albums and an EP was just dumb. None of the songs were played markedly different than their studio versions. And it was probably the worse ALL show I ever saw (and I can't count how many times I saw them back then). They played really late and Bill was in a super foul mood. Just tons of bad vibes.

Excellent calls on both. I listened to that Kinks records countless times when I was a kid. My obsession with power chords played on a Les Paul through a Marshall probably started right there.

I did very much enjoy Government Issue - Live (the LP on Mystic Records). I bought it the day I found it after it was released and I played the hell out of that record for years.

PiL - Live in Tokyo was pretty good too and I got a lot of mileage out of that when i first bought it after it came out.

An interesting list for sure. I've heard rumors that the Ramones album was tracked in the studio except for the drums. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

I haven't heard that Gene album, but I do like them. I got into them after they were done, so I didn't really pay attention to the press saying they were a Smiths ripoff. I see some similarities and influences for sure, but they've basically got their own sound. I'd say Olympian is a 90s classic by now, with the follow up album having some very good songs. I don't know much else by them other than the BBC/B-sides comp. which I haven't heard in a few years.

I'll have to track down that TSOL album and the Smiths boot.

I agree that Joy Division "Live in Amsterdam" is pretty awesome. I find it controlled but very intense. It moves between moods well, like the beginning of Insight is serene then pummels with the electronics. Digital hits hard. Disorder, I would have loved to see them play that song, because I love the way it builds and rages at the end. Transmission sounds great (I single it out because it might be my favorite JD track), Interzone is brutal. It is a great representation of the band and a truly great set.

Agreed both. Funny how "normal" looking guys from Australia could trump the whole London punk scene! JGJR, I wonder if Algy Ward prefers Saints or Damned, having been in both.

I can't confirm for sure, but I am inclined to believe that you are correct or that at least it's not fully live by a long stretch (this was true of many live albums back then, though).

I've never knowingly heard any live Damned from that period (tons from after that, though) unless you're counting their 1st few BBC sessions, so hard to say.

snake, I only own the No Way Out '82 on cassette so can't really help you there. And those weasels wouldn't give us a cent if you bought it from them.

And the other Live w/ Brian on guitar would have to be another CBGB gig we did because G.I. never got to play Peppermint Lounge. Probably the gig we played on our NY-Boston mini-tour.

This summer while on tour, I manage to get LYLE on vinyl at some squat´s free shop in Hanover.
Also got some more cool stuff like American Standard - Wonderland CD (original one on Powerhouse Records).

Did you like the LYLE album, Snake Just curious because even though Tom had J. and Pete play on a few tracks, I found his rendition of Joyride with all the over-done drum-sampling to be a bit too NIN for me. Can't say I'm a fan of the 2 solo recordings but I'm also my own worst critic about my recordings.
