Can't We All Just Like Cymbals Eat Guitars?

Consider this an olive branch of sorts, a new record that I think we can all get behind. I just saw these guys open for Bob Mould and they were terrific. It's got keyboards, falsetto vocals and that post-punk thing where the bass carries the melody line more than the guitars. But there are also memorable tunes galore all over their latest and they seriously brought it live.
So, might I suggest you U2'ers check out the latest by Cymbals Eats Guitars?

Saw them open for Bob in 2012 and didn't really pay attention but they did nothing for me. Having said that, I am still going to revisit and check this out. I've heard too many good things and maybe I just wasn't in the mood.

For some reason it made me think of Engine 88 and Archers.

Kind of reminds me of ATDI, which isn't a bad thing.

The guy's vocals kill it for me. Sorry. I'm judging by the show I saw them open for Bob Mould back in 2012. He must really like them since they opened for him again. They also opened for Quicksand when we saw them again a few months later, but we didn't match their set that time.

Regardless, I know others who really like them, too, so I dunno.

I've seen them 3x now and this is the first time they ever really caught my ear. Prolly cuz they just played their new record and general consensus is that said record is a huge step forward for them.

And the singer lives on Staten Island, so they get +2 points for that.

I have heard them referred to as an SI-based band, but I guess it's just the singer. Regardless, I'm curious to check this out.

Funny that people mention not liking his vocals/voice as the first time I heard of them, that was also said. It was for that "cover song" thing where they did Superchunk's "Detroit Has a Skyline" and people were bitching about how his voice sounded (amongst other things) I thought his voice sounded great, it sounded like he cared about the song and what he was singing, I mean it's not Husker Du and "Eight Miles High" but, I thought it was a good cover, sloppy and all over the place, which is how covers should be. Check it out below if you hadn't heard it (it was from 2010).

Ok. That kicked ass. What’s another good song from that new album?

Yep. Same here. Before he comes in, I was digging it. Once the singing started, I wasn't feeling it anymore. That Superchunk cover is pretty cool though.

Re: the vocals. Live he had essentially two settings - a falsetto and full on shouting (I wouldn't go as far as saying 'screaming'. He doesn't sound like Deafheaven dork or anything). I notice it less on the recording.
I read an interview and it turns out the drummer is new which may be a big part of their improvement. He was a monster - really powerful, drove the whole thing. Even if it's been said before it bears repeating - A Good Drummer Can Make All the Difference.

The vocals were fine. They started out a bit '90s alt-rock, but improved when he got more frantic.

That was okay but just didn't grab me. Count me in as one of those that didn't dig the vocals too much.

I dug the vocals just fine. It doesn't sound like the same band I saw in 2012 at all!
