Happy B-day Lemmy-69 today!

Also-Krokus are doing a handful of US dates in 2015, L.A. and IL area announced right now. Also-did you know Rihanna is a Krokus fan?

true, extreme sucked, but Nuno can actually play. Same case for guitarists like Warren DeMartini. ratt was simple 3 chord stuff composed around choruses, but DeMartini can actually lay down tasteful solos and had good tone.

found a cd stall at the xmas market last day and among a huge pile of metal cds found out a piece I was looking for a while:
http://www.metalmind.pl/en/metalmind_news430.html
This is one of my thrash faves since a lot and had just a copy on cdr, so I was so glad to find out this solid reprint:

Metal Mind Productions presents another classic from Roadrunner Records' archives. This time it is a speed metal masterpiece from Znowhite. Among other speed metal bands, Znowhite definitely had style and character. "Act Of God" to this day remains one of the most thrilling and intensive metal productions of the 80's. It took the band only this single release to earn the status of a classic and to once and for all engrave the name Znowhite onto the pages of metal history. Re-edition in new digipack edition on gold discs digitally remastered using 24-Bit process. Limited to 2000 copies with biography and liner notes by Ian Tafoya.

I listened to Blow My Fuse by Kix on my lunchtime walk through lower Manhattan today. That is one seriously good slab of late '80s Aerosmith-AC/DC-G'n'R style riffage. Plus, it only has one power ballad and it totally doesn't suck. Such a great little record.

Love Kix-they have a new record out-first in many years.

They don't play the New England area too much, I may try and road-trip for a show they are doing in CT in 4/15.

Just saw a great, relatively new metal band from Ventura, CA - Night Demon.

They have a 4-song EP out with a full-length coming early in the year. They are proudly influenced by the NWOBHM......the first band I thought of when I heard them was Diamond Head....but if you're into that era, you should definitely check them out (they have the name and logo to go along with that vibe).

They're on tour - check 'em out (and no - I'm not getting any commissions here).

saw them open up for RAVEN. my friends are good friends with them. his vocals sound similar to Paul Stanley live. They also do a killer cover of "Lighting To The Nations."

I listened to the record You Are Here by Chicago metal band High Spirits. I really liked it. Very clean, streamlined metal. No blues whatsoever. Like Judas Priest without the histrionic vocals or maybe some NWOBHM.

Anyway, here's the track "When the Lights Go Down"

Saw METALLICA, SABBATH and MEGADETH/SUICIDAL all last month. All 3 were great. If I had to say, the MEGADETH gig was the most solid. Mustaine has a good core of guys this time around. Bought the new ANTHRAX, DESTROYER666, GRAVE & ENTOMBED releases. Going to see SATAN next week. On the fence on SLAYER/TESTAMENT/CARCASS

First off, I wrote my initial comment over a year ago. You don't still like those guy, do you?

Secondly, I don't they are selling a million times more records than me. Do you mean to tell me they sold 38 million records?! I doubt it.

I listened to the new Kvelertak album (Nattesferd) on Spotify on the basis of a Pitchfork review that referenced Van Halen and Judas Priest. And sure enough there are several songs on here that are closer to the pop-metal of...say Torche, than anything I'd call Black Metal. 'Cept the vocal, natch.
Check it out:

I could never be a black metal fan because I can't read the band logos. I have no idea what most of them say. Melvins, Grave and Sheer Terror are pretty clear.

However I am intrigued by the band "Weekend Nachos". I wonder if they are cheesey?

Haven't listened to too much new metal lately, but I am stoked on Sauron's new album coming out soon. Their first in 8 years. Total Kreator/Destruction worship.

Extreme vs. Ratt = no comparison. Ratt actually had really great songs. Extreme was, besides the virtuoso guitar playing, completely bland. Warren DeMartini has always been great, for sure.
