Keith Richards is also on, promoting his new children's book (I shit you not). Lots of speculation if they will play together, but I doubt it.

So, I really haven't followed any of the rumors... are they going to put out a record, or are they just padding their 401ks by playing a bunch of festivals for a few years before they call it a career?

We should all be so lucky as to make a good living doing exactly the thing we love the most.

I thought they sounded awesome.

I honestly think it's about time. I'm glad to see them getting their due. A couple years ago when I saw Bob Mould doing Copper Blue I remember afterwards talking to my friend and telling him that I wish Paul would just get out there and do something similar because lord knows, the world needs it. I hope I get a chance to see 'em.

That was just incredible. I cannot get over how great they sound and performed. For living as hard as Paul has, he looks great. Alex Chilton was always a favorite song of mine and it still sounds fresh and exciting. The music is real. I'm totally over punkers who feel as though music only matters for a brief period of time and then it's no longer valid. Yeah, because every high school in the world has a band or orchestra that plays only current music....... Good music is good music, and I'm happy to hear it played by some of the people who created it.

I was never the biggest Replacements fan but I thought they were great at Riot Fest. I just watched this and thought they were excellent.

How many surviving members of the old band aren't playing with them and why? I know one of them died so is there only one left that isn't part of this current version?

I say good on them for touring and making some money. They have good songs, people love them and seem genuinely happy that they get a chance to see the band. I never bothered to go see them back in the day so I was glad I got to see them when I did recently and it wasn't a show where they were totally wasted and sucked.

Original lead guitarist (fired in '86) is dead. His replacement had a terrible stroke a couple years ago and can not play. The only true hold out is drummer Chris Mars, who has become of painter of some renown since leaving the band and has little interest in playing the drums anymore. They have his "blessing", FWIW.

I thought they sounded great last night. I don't have any major problem with them playing as the Replacements, but I'd definitely be more excited about it if they had a new record to offer. The tunes they did on the comp they released a few years ago were great... you can't tell me Paul isn't sitting on a decade-backlog of tunes like this...

Great performance on Tonight show and the show Sunday in Boston was pretty much mind-blowing

Here are some photos my friend Brad took of that show, I expect audio to follow shortly:

FOR TRUE GEEKS ONLY -

I just watched/listened to this for the first time on my phone at lunch. With my headphones on and the volume cranked this sounded terrific. The mix has Paul and Dave's guitars panned hard left/right so you get a nice sense of their different approaches to the song.

Jaybird, the songs on the Replacements comp were amazing, especially "Message to the Boys". My guess is that Paul isn't sitting on a ton of songs, but he has been playing and recording them solo through the years. However, solo versions probably don't compare to what they'd sound like with a kick ass band like the Replacements are now.

I love the Westerberg solo stuff, but I'm also thinking he's capturing a different vibe when he goes solo as opposed to doing 'MATS stuff. Sure, you can say "All Tied Down" is pretty much a Paul solo album, but I always felt there was a difference in solo and the 'MATS.

"WOWIE-WOW-WOW :!: " - The Continental

Was doing an events crew set-up for this morning's corporate gig Counting Crows were to play overnight so missed this. I gots no issues with this Replacements touring & wish I could be one of the many lucky dawgs (or dags as it were) to see them live. As I said before, I think the entire price of 1 day's Riotfest would be worth it to see them, alone :!: I have no idea what some of y'all are complaining about the fest cos there's not only Replacements, there's Bob Mould, Weller, etc. :o
