Seriously ... you'd pick The Freeze, MDC, or Angry Samoans Kraut over Dag Nasty, Youth Brigade, TSOL or G.I. :?: That's just fuckin' sad.

If you are going with "worth talking about":

1. Mentors - always good for a convo
2. GG Allin and whatever band he had concocted
3. Dag Nasty - because it is always fun to discuss everything Dag related
4. Youth of Today - like them or not, everyone has an opinion
5. Vegan Reich - stirred up enough controversy to warrant an interesting conversation, weird old school ties to the anachro scene, reggae connection
6. Agnostic Front - from New York, skinhead roots, prison time, "hard" following... just some talking points
6. Warzone - one word... Raybeez
7. TSOL - Jack and his crew placed enough controversy around this band
8. Suicidal Tendencies - gang related following, intertwined with Dogtown, changes in style
9. Minor Threat - all around good guys who created a monster?

AND LAST BUT DEFINITELY NOT LEAST...
10. Cro-Mags - one truly stellar record, two monster egos, krishna consciousness, metal, skinheads, MMA, stabbings, Stimulators, Burroughs, Meat is for Pussies,... amazing

You have got to love music (doesn't have to be rock and roll) played by "sketchy weirdos." However, isn't it pretty cliche for "sketchy weirdos" to play rock and roll (or participate in some form of artistic expression)? Isn't it much more "unexpected" that a bunch of clean cut kids would decide to scream their heads off about how people should be more positive and live a clean lifestyle?

Nope...I've been to Boy Scout jamborees as a spectator and groups of
clean cut boys doing posi things has been a major part of my childhood.
I never wanted to hear that set to music.

I have to say, John, I would also take MDC, The Freeze and the Angry Samoans over Dag and Youth Brigade.......and its not even a tough decision for me. MDC's first record is EPIC punk rock to me in music and lyrics - it says/does it all. Possible top 10 punk record of all time. The Angry Samoans are so fun/awesome I am not sure what else can be said. Inside my Brain and Back from Samoa are fantastic and better than anything Youth Brigade ever did. As far as the Freeze goes, their stuff on Boston not LA and Land of the Lost is great and I listen to it regularly now. I cannot put my finger on it but there is something about the Freeze that really strikes a chord w/me.
